(CNS) - A shooting in El Cajon early Tuesday morning left a man dead, El Cajon police said.Officers responding to a report of gunfire found a man mortally wounded in the 1500 block of East Main Street in El Cajon about 1:30 a.m., according to police.The victim, whose identity was withheld pending family notification, died en route to a hospital, ECPD Lt. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a car slammed into an El Cajon power pole Tuesday afternoon, leaving some residents without power.The crash happened on Madison Avenue and 3rd Street near Madison Avenue Elementary School."It was just kind of like a loud boom," said Julia Jorgensen, who heard the crash.  "The car was smoking at the front for a little bit, so I was really scared that it was going to blow up."According to police in El Cajon, the crash caused extensive damage.  In photos from the scene, the power pole appears to be split in half. SDG&E turned off power approximately 120 residents in the area as a precaution.  Power was restored for most residents by 4:30 p.m.The crash also closed Madison Avenue between 3rd Street and Macon Street, creating traffic as parents picked up their children from one of several schools in the area.Police say the incident is being investigated as a DUI crash. A witness described the driver as stumbling out of the vehicle shortly after the crash."I ran up to him.  I said, 'Who was in the car, like who's in there?' and he was really really out of it.  His eyes were rolling in the back of his head," Jorgensen said. "He was kind of falling everywhere.  He was really really sweaty.At one point, she says he even laid down in the grass, curled up like a ball.Both the driver and passenger were responsive but taken to the hospital with serious injuries. SDGE expects to reopen the street by 10 p.m. 1540

(KGTV) - After a series of crashes over the summer, people in El Cajon are calling on the city to add some safety measures to the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Renette Avenue."It's very dangerous," says Julia Reyes, who lives near the intersection. "We have a lot of families and kids crossing through here. We have two schools near here too.""It's a regular race track," says David Pina, who also lives on the corner. He recently replaced the fence in his yard because a suspected drunk driver plowed into it over Memorial Day weekend."We were all in the house and heard a big bang in the street and all of the sudden, boom, right in the yard," he says.The intersection has stop signs for cars headed East and West. There are also cones and left-turn restrictions in the middle of the intersection. Pina says that only makes it worse."That sign ends up in the street all the time," he says of the "No Left Turn" sign in the middle of the road. He adds that people ignore the cones and drive straight through the intersection illegally.Neighbors have asked the city to install traffic-calming measures. They think a stop sign, speed humps, flashing lights or a sturdier barrier could be a solution.10News reached out to the City of El Cajon to see if there have been any discussions about adding safety measures to the intersection. A spokesperson from the Department of Public Works asked us to submit a formal public records request. Because of the holiday weekend for Labor Day, the city has not had a chance to reply to that submission.For Pina, he hopes something can be done soon. He worries that the next crash may cost him more than just a fence."My grandson sleeps in that front room," he says. "You gotta worry about the kids. I if somebody did come through that fence and come into the house, there's no chance for anybody. Kroger officials said, "at Kroger, we are implementing several creative solutions to minimize the impact to our customers. Walmart and CVS locations have also made changes to encourage customers to use exact change or plastic to pay for their items when possible.
