SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A restaurant destroyed by a fatal fire last October reopened just in time for the holiday crowds. Kojack's Greek American fusion restaurant has been a Mission Beach staple for more than three decades. But last October, a fire started near the roof of the building and destroyed the ice cream shop and Kojack's on the bottom floor, as well as the apartment rooms on the second floor. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said 36-year-old apartment tenant, Aaron Porter died in the fire. Since the tragedy, the building and restaurant owner, Mike Soltan says he has worked tirelessly to get back onto his feet to reopen on his favorite holiday. "I never miss the Fourth of July on this beach for 33 years. So we tried so hard to make it, and finally, we did it." Soltan said. Longtime customer, Steve Grebing said he could not miss the grand reopening. "He [Soltan] kept saying in two weeks, two weeks. He was getting there, but now he is back here, so it's great," Grebing said. While the building itself is rebuilt, the renovations for the second floor are on hold. So no apartment tenants are able to live upstairs. Soltan also owns the ice cream shop next to Kojack's. Both shops reopened on July 4. 1226

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is recovering from stab wounds after getting attacked by an intruder in his home. The man's 20-year-old son shot and killed that intruder according to San Diego Police. It happened just before 6:30 Tuesday morning at a home in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive in San Carlos. Neighbors heard the violence. "I heard the gunshots, it was like three or four gunshots, then screams for help immediately after," said Denise Rolla. When police got to the home, they found the suspect dead in the pool and the 54-year-old homeowner with stab wounds to the upper body. Police say the homeowner's son shot and killed the intruder, who stumbled out the back and landed in the pool. "I heard what turned out to be the suspect fall into the pool and then a couple minutes later, you could see the blood start to spread out through the pool," said Andrew Grogg, who lives right next door. There are walking paths and Mission Trails Golf Course is located behind the homes which are just southwest of Jackson Drive. Neighbors say they don't have a problem with transients in the area, but police say so far, it appears the 38-year-old suspect is homeless. His name hasn't been released. The family owns a tire shop in La Mesa. They are well known and liked in the community. "They're local business owners in the community. They're great neighbors. They're kind, they're nice," said Grogg. Police say so far, the attack appears to be random. 1472

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local father is just a few days away from reuniting with his family who is in federal quarantine in Northern California at Travis Air Force Base. Ken Burnett's wife and two young children were visiting Wuhan, China when the coronavirous broke out. The city shut down and the three were stranded, unable to fly home. Their 14-day federal quarantine ends on Tuesday. Burnett plans on traveling to Northern California to reunite with his wife and kids so they can all travel back to San Diego together. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A kitchen fire caused an estimated million in damage at a popular South Park restaurant/bar early Wednesday morning.San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said crews were called to Hamilton's Tavern & Cafe, located on 1531 30th Street, at around 5:30 a.m. in response to a fire in the establishment’s kitchen area.ABC 10News learned flames burned into the bar’s dining hall and caused some damage to part of a brewery next door.Hamilton’s owner Scott Blair said, “The first thing I thought is I hope everyone’s OK … you’re just like, I hope everyone’s ok because a neighborhood of people living in that building.”As nearby residents were evacuated, crews were able to knock down the flames within 25 minutes, SDFD officials said.Due to the heavy damage to the kitchen, it is believed Hamilton’s Tavern may not be able to operate for the next few months.The restaurant/bar has been shut down since July and was operating out of its sister brewery because it was larger. Hamilton’s had just started operating outdoors this past weekend due to San Diego County being moved into the state’s restrictive COVID-19 purple tier.According to Blair, the kitchen was their lifeline to stay open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man is accused of having and distributing explicit images of minors.According to a federal complaint that was just unsealed authorities allege Gilad Daniel Reifler knowingly distributed visual depictions of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and possessed images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.The federal documents say agents used peer-to-peer file sharing software to connect to his computer in January 2017 and obtain more than four thousand images. Agents say they were able to connect to the computer on two other dates and obtain more sexually explicit files.According to the complaint in June of 2017 agents searched Reifler’s home where they claim he admitted to obtaining and distributing child pornography via the same P2P file-sharing program that they used to obtain the images from a device in his residence.Court documents say, “following the execution of the search warrant I reviewed media seized from Reifler’s residents. The results showed over 170,000 images and over 10,000 videos depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct on media seized.”A man who identified himself has Gilad Reifler told Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin he had no comment about the allegations.10News tried to get a hold of Reifler’s attorney, but as of this writing have not heard back.The FBI tells Team 10 they can’t comment on anything outside of what’s already in the public documents. 1466
