SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The battle over the Crossroads of the West Gun Show continued Tuesday in Del Mar.The Board that oversees the fairgrounds is reviewing the show that has been hosted at the fairgrounds for the last 28 years.A pro-gun, second-amendment political action committee collected more than 3,100 letters in support of continuing the show in Del Mar.The letters were given to the board for review and consideration. Michael Schwartz, Executive Director of the San Diego County Gun Owners is pushing is pushing for the board to renew the shows contract with no restrictions or limitations."It took us less than a week to collect all these signatures, we could have gotten more. Some are written by entire families who come to the show every year. It is a family event with almost a 30 year history with Del Mar," said Schwartz. Protesters also made an appearance at the board meeting dressed in orange and asking the board to cancel the shows current contract.The Del Mar, Solanna Beach and Encinitas city councils have approved resolutions calling for a ban on the gun shows at the fairgrounds.Guns can be purchased at the show, but California law requires extensive background checks and a waiting period.The board will make a decision to cancel or continue the gun show at it's board meeting in September. 1329

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties opened a shelter Thursday night for residents displaced by flooding from heavy rainstorms.The shelter opened around 9:30 p.m. at the Paradise Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church on East 8th Street in National City.Services include a safe and clean place to stay, food, hydration, comfort kits with personal hygiene items, emotional support and health services, according to the Red Cross. The shelter will stay open as long as there is a need.In response to the flooding caused by today’s rainstorms, #RedCross disaster workers are working to open a shelter this evening at the Paradise Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church (2701 East 8th Street, National City, CA 91950). The meals will go to Feeding San Diego and couldn’t have been done without those who pledged their support. ABC10 and Live Well San Diego partnered with Feeding San Diego with the goal of raising enough money to buy a million meals. The fundraiser continued throughout December. Feeding San Diego serves 63,000 people every week, including children, seniors, military families and anyone facing hunger. One in eight people in San Diego County are food insecure and one in 6 kids in San Diego face hunger. In 2017, Feeding San Diego distributed 26 million meals. 681

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The discovery of suspicious packages near a downtown San Diego building prompted evacuations, but the boxes were later determined to be harmless.Authorities were called an area near the intersection of 6th Avenue and B Street at around 8:30 a.m. after several white boxes were found and deemed suspicious.The WeWork building through the 13th floor was evacuated and traffic lanes were closed in a nearby area due to the investigation. She said the FBI investigators are now focusing on profiling the senders.“What do the targets have in common? This case appears to be political ideology. But is it more than that" Patrick said. These acts of terror can be inspired by a variety of things, Patrick said. It could be a stab at a political party, a news organizations, or a personal vendetta or grievance. While this morning’s incident at the San Diego Union-Tribune headquarters turned out to be non-threatening, Patrick said the heavy police presence and bomb squad response were appropriate."We want to make sure that we never let our guard down and we take every report as serious as we can," Patrick said. Unlike political figures, regular citizens do not have the luxury of having the secret service monitoring our mail. So Patrick said it is essential that we be extra vigilant, especially during the season of giving. “Even rudimentary bombs can explode in your face," Patrick said. "Unfamiliar packages should be treated with caution. Is there a return address and is it a name you don’t recognize?
