It will require about 90 healthy young adults between the ages of 18 and 30.The group 1 Day Sooner has recruited from all over the world, including 3,000 Britons.“If the vaccine works, then ideally, people don't get infected and if people do, then they will be closely monitored and treated, but because these are young and healthy people taking part in the trial, I think, researchers feel comfortable doing so because the risks of death are on par with something like kidney donation for people who are young and healthy,” said Abie Rohrig with 1 Day Sooner.Before researchers test the vaccine, they'll do a characterization study. That's where volunteers are infected by getting a vaccine to determine the right amount of virus to give during the trial.Because of the risk, 1 Day Sooner is advocating for the entire process to be made public.Results could come in May. Even though that's likely after other COVID-19 vaccines are licensed, it's still important because we need billions of doses and because of the unique data human challenge trials provide.“Researchers can understand how the virus works in the human body. They can understand the biological markers of immunity. The winds were so strong on July 26 in Redding, California, authorities say they uprooted trees, ripped roofs off houses and downed power lines.The fast-moving Carr Fire took three family members from Ed Bledsoe that day -- his wife and two great-grandchildren."The tornado was hovering over the house," Amanda Woodley, Bledsoe's granddaughter, told CNN. "It was just a tornado fire over the house."Bledsoe had left the house earlier to go to the doctor's office, and was on the phone with his family members as the flames closed in. They believed they were safe from the fire and knew nothing of the approaching hellscape that was like nothing any of them had ever seen before.He said his son drove toward the flames in the hope of rescuing his family members. "My son said the grass wasn't on fire, the trees were getting sucked up in the air and burning," Bledsoe told CNN. He says the conditions have to be perfect for something like this to occur.Firenadoes are formed from a fire's intense heat, causing the air to heat up quickly and rise rapidly. That, combined with surface winds that are obviously quite strong, creates a vortex similar to a dust devil.Clements says aside from the potentially damaging winds, a firenado like this can even pull fire in different directions.At 3:27 p.m. that day, the National Weather service sent out a statement noting that "radar indicates strong rotation located within the intense fire activity of the Carr Fire." They warned of possible wind gusts up to 50 mph."The wind went from zero wind to 40 to 60 mph winds within 15 minutes," Justin Sanchez told CNN. He said his house was consumed by the firenado. "(There was) a loud disturbing deep growling noise as it spun around in a spiral. The United States says they are delivering critical supplies to Lebanon after the deadly port explosion on Tuesday.The United States Air Force said in a press release that planes at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar were getting supplies out to help the Lebanon people after more than 100 people were killed in a deadly blast in Beirut.Officials said members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Mobility Command’s 8th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron and 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron on Al Udeid Air Base, and the Area Support Group-Qatar from Camp As Sayliyah helped in the delivery of the aid.“Support of this magnitude at such speed wouldn’t be possible without the joint effort of all members of Al Udeid Air Base, our U.S. Army counterparts at Camp As Sayliyah and our gracious Qatari partners,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel Tulley, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander in the statement. “In the wake of tragedy, it truly takes a combined effort to make the mission happen. The U.S. recorded more than 120,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday as cases continue to skyrocket across the country.According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 121,888 new cases of COVID-19 recorded across the country on Thursday. That shatters the previous record of 102,000 cases that were reported on Wednesday.Johns Hopkins reports that more than 1,200 people died of the virus in the U.S. on Thursday, the highest death total since Sept. 15. The highest daily death total throughout the pandemic occurred on April 15, when 2,600 people died.According to Johns Hopkins, COVID-19 is currently spreading faster in the U.S. than it is anywhere else in the world. The U.S. has recorded an average of about 80,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days; the country with the second-highest rate of new cases is India, with an average of about 45,000 new cases of the virus each day.Health officials warn that the U.S. is entering what could be the most dangerous and deadly period of the pandemic, as colder weather forces social gatherings indoors, where the virus is more easily spread.Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 9,606,369 cases reported in the US, 234,911 being fatal.
