MOSCOW, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The future of Russia-China relations is looking bright following Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's three-day visit to China, which included the 14th Chinese-Russian prime ministers' meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. Chinese President Hu Jintao, who met with Putin on Wednesday, the last day of his visit, spoke highly of the development of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the results of the 14th regular meeting between Putin and his Chinese counterpart.     Hu said China was willing to exert joint efforts with Russia and take the opportunities to further enhance political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation, especially cooperation on energy, high technology and culture, to elevate the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination to a new high. The two countries clinched an array of cooperation documents, including agreements and memorandums on natural gas, oil, an express railway, the space industry and nuclear energy.     Although the bilateral trade volume shrank, both sides' position in each other's foreign trade ties became more prominent and the trade structure is improving gradually. Progress has been made on investment cooperation and more joint projects such as lumber processing, resource exploitation and infrastructure construction have been carried out on Russian territories.     In particular, the two countries are pushing forward large-scale oil and gas projects in a steady manner. The launch of the China-Russia oil pipeline project marked a new stage of long-term and strategic cooperation in the oil sector. The two sides will also advance gas cooperation in accordance with a memorandum of understanding on gas cooperation reached in June.     Meanwhile, the two states are fulfilling an outline of regional cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East Area and Eastern Siberia, which envisions prosperous cooperation between border regions.     The economies of China and Russia are mutually complementary and in a critical phase in development. BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday called for more policy assistance and financial support to encourage the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).     Attendees at a State Council executive meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, agreed that promoting the sound development of the SMEs was of great importance to maintain economic growth and social stability.     The government would exert more efforts to improve the policy and law system to create a more open and fair competition environment for SMEs.     Measures would be taken to help SMEs tackle financing difficulties, and the establishment of the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), the country's first Nasdaq-style market, would speedup helping small companies raise fund.     The central government would also increase funding to support the SMEs, especially in sectors such as technological innovation, industrial structure adjustment and employment.     The government would pick some SMEs to participate in the country's subsidized purchasing program of home appliances, agricultural machinery and automobiles in rural areas as well as the auto, home appliance replacement program.     Attendees at the meeting demanded better services for SMEs and support to promote technological progress and structure adjustment in SMEs.     They also reviewed and approved draft regulations on national body-building and on the administration of joint-venture establishment of foreign companies or individuals in China. Both regulations would be released to public after further revision.

NEW YORK, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices plummeted to below 70 U.S. dollars a barrel on Monday as investors were rattled by the sharp decline in China's equities market.     Light, sweet crude for October delivery lost 2.78 dollars, or 3.8 percent, to settle at 69.96 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell to the intraday low of 69.13 dollars a barrel. Global stock markets dropped broadly after China's Shanghai Composite Index dived almost 7 percent, spurring concerns about the pace of world economic recovery.     Oil prices have found support from optimism that a potential turnaround in the economy could boost flagging fuel consumption, which sent the futures up to a fresh ten-month high of 75 dollars a barrel. However, oil failed to break the 75-dollar psychological barrier and fell back to around 70 dollars a barrel as investors were worried that the market might have gotten too far ahead of the economy.     In London, Brent Crude for October delivery tumbled 3.52 dollars, or 4.8 percent, to 69.27 dollars a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.

TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Israeli President Shimon Peres Thursday lauded the great achievements made by China over the past 60 years when attending a reception held by Chinese Embassy in Israel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     At the reception held at the residence of Chinese Ambassador to Israel Zhao Jun, Peres stressed that China currently plays an important role in the world.     He said that due to the great achievements made by China over the past 60 years, Chinese people are now becoming more affluent and confident, noting that "Israel loves China."     Highlighted the important role China is playing in the world, Peres said that "a peaceful China is a peaceful world."     Before Peres' speech, Zhao said that the reception was also held to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel.     China has made remarkable achievements over the years, said the Chinese ambassador, adding that despite the progress, China remains a developing country and will continue its development.     He added that the relationship between China and Israel is continuing to develop in many fields, while China is now Israel's biggest trading partner in Asia.     Zhao also mentioned the "Experience China in Israel" event, which will be held in October in Israel in a bid to show the development of China in many domains: education, economy, technology and especially the Chinese contemporary culture.

MOSCOW, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese merchants will be allowed to retrieve their goods in a closed Moscow market, the head of a Chinese coordination group said on Thursday.     A Chinese coordination group on Thursday discussed with Moscow's consumer department the clearing up of Chinese merchants' stalls in the Cherkizovsky market as well as the transferring of their goods.     The Russian side agreed to take further steps to safeguard the market's order and to work with the Chinese side to crack down on the illegal activities, said Cai Guiru, head of the temporary Chinese coordination group and chairperson of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Russia.     It is agreed that Chinese merchants will be allowed to clean up their stalls and ship out their merchandise during a specific period of time every day, Cai said.     The Russian side took "sincere and earnest" attitudes towards the handling of the market closure, in the hope that most of the Chinese merchants will be able to retrieve their goods safely, she said.     This meeting is helpful and the Russian side heard positive opinions from Chinese vendors, said Georgy Smoleyevcky, first deputy head of the Moscow Consumer Market and Services Department.     The Russian side will make conclusions accordingly and give instructions to relevant departments, he said, expressing the hope that complaints from Chinese traders will be less and less in future.     The official also dismissed the speculation that a Chinese shopping mall will be built in the place of the closed Cherkizovsky, Russia's biggest wholesale market.     The coordination group, formed under the auspices of the Chinese embassy in Russia in July, involves heads of China's provincial chambers of commerce.     Russian police abruptly shut down the nearly 300-hectare market in northeastern Moscow on June 29, after the disclosure of various illegal and irregular operations in the market by the Russian Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Rights Protection and People Welfare.     A Chinese senior delegation, led by Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, reached broad consensus with the Russian side on the closure issue.
