SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Large churches throughout San Diego are scaling down services in an effort to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor of The Rock Church, says they normally get 12 to 13 thousand people who attend services at their seven campuses. However, we are still going to have church and it’s going to be awesome,” McPherson said. “Here’s what’s going to happen. McPherson also said church staff are taking precautions for those inside by sanitizing surfaces and not shaking hands. The Rock Church isn’t the only religious organization making changes amid COVID-19. The San Diego Catholic Diocese says, beginning Monday, all daily Masses will be cancelled, but they will be streaming Sunday Mass in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The Diocese adds that churches will remain open for parishioners who want to pray and seek spiritual assistance. It’s unclear how long Mass will be cancelled. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Mission Valley's Gordon Biersch restaurant may be closing, but the brewery location will live on under a new local eatery.Puesto will take over the location of the well-known restaurant after it closes in July, according to the company. The Mission Center Road spot will be the Mexican restaurant's third location.Gordon Biersch is set to leave Mission Valley on July 16, though no reason was immediately given for the closure, according to paperwork filed by the company. The new restaurant plans to open in Fall 2019.The on-site brewery will give Puesto the opportunity to develop their own beer program, after collaborations with San Diego and Mexico breweries for years, in addition to its signature margaritas and cocktails.“The Puesto team has been doing cervecería collaborations for years now, working primarily with cervecerías in Mexico to create our own San Diego meets Mexico cervezas," Puesto co-owner Eric Adler said. "We’ve been looking for a space in San Diego for some time where we could develop our own cerveza program. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Jack in the Box Monday announced that it’s looking into the possibility of selling the company. The company claimed in a press release it’s exploring several options to “maximize shareholder value.”Several of the options include the sale of the company or a previously announced plan to increase its leverage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Intense heat is sparking fires and sending San Diegans to the coast seeking relief."The temperatures today are pretty extreme," Cal Fire Captain Thomas Shoots said, adding the brush is dry from the heat and lack of rain making Wednesday's forecasted record heat very dangerous.A brush fire sparked in Ramona near Ramona St. and Boundary Ave around 11 a.m.The triple-digit heat causing concern for Fire Chief Jason Lambirth with the U.S. Forest Service, "we really take care of our own people, keep a close eye on them, make sure they're hydrated with water and Gatorade and go from there."Firefighters kept the blaze within a couple of acres, according to Shoots.A huge relief to neighbors, like Leanne Plunkett who has lived in Ramona for 44 years. "Oh I'm relaxed now, but it was pretty hectic for a while!" Plunkett said.She was stepping into the shower when law enforcement knocked on their door to issue evacuation orders. Plunkett said she jumped out, threw on clothes, and started packing jewelry and important documents.She said they had to evacuate twice in the past, including the Cedar Fire.The heat taking its toll on San Diegans across the county. Many, like Oscar Fuentes from El Cajon, headed to the beach."It was starting to get to 110 degrees out there so we decided to hit the beach... It's a lot more tolerable that's for sure it's really nice, I expect it's going to be a lot better when we get in that water."He's not alone according to Sgt. Lonnie Stephens with San Diego Fire Rescue's Lifeguard Division."We're still seeing elevated beach crowds on the weekends and during the weekdays." He said normally crowds dissipate after Labor Day but that hasn't happened yet."Throughout this heat, which has been ongoing for quite some time, yes we have had some citizens that have had some heat-related illness." He said it's important to wear loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and stay in the shade when possible.An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect until Thursday night. 2045

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In anticipation of its members returning, 24 Hour Fitness locations around San Diego County have made several changes that will allow them to follow county health guidelines and keep their doors open.Under the state’s tiered system for businesses, 24 Hour Fitness is among those able to resume indoor operations, but with specific modifications in place.The fitness centers are now requiring reservations for 90-minute workout sessions, and each location can only operate at 10 percent capacity, so they have to keep a close eye on how many people are inside of the building.While reservations will not be required for clubs in San Diego County, each club in the county will be capped at a 10 percent capacity.Jeremy Franke, Regional Vice President of 24 Hour Fitness, said, “We have a check-in system where we can check at any time and know how many people are in the club. And when we reach capacity, our system flags and says we’re at capacity. And we’ll have the next person wait. Like retail stores, we let one in and one out if we get full.”Once inside the gym, social distancing is a must. There are signs and markers that remind members about staying six feet apart.24 Hour Fitness has also stepped up with cleaning and disinfecting, shutting everything down for 30-minute periods throughout the day to do so.Some things will remain closed, such as spas, saunas, pools, and basketball courts. Drinking fountains won’t be available either.Management also says each of their 25 locations in San Diego County will be very strict when it comes to enforcing wearing facial coverings.Right now, group classes are not yet available, but 24 Hour Fitness is working on bringing those back.Hours of operations have also changed temporarily, with clubs operating from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. 1806
