SAN DIEGO (CNS/KGTV) - A federal judge in San Diego today ordered the Trump administration to immediately start new asylum screenings for eligible reunified families, despite objections from the government that the agreement has not been finalized.Under the proposed settlement agreement – which U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw gave unofficial preliminary approval to last month – reunited migrant families would get a second chance at applying for asylum.Attorneys for the migrant families argued that when the families were separated at the border, most children were not interviewed to determine if they had a credible fear of returning to their native country. In addition, all special concerts and all concerts in the Broadway at the Jacobs, Jazz at the Jacobs, Fox Film and Family concert series have been canceled through May 2021.As a result of the cancellations and to simplify the ticketing process, the company will automatically move any 2020/21 subscription into the 2021/22 season. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two robberies were reported within a couple of hours of each other early Sunday morning near San Diego State University, police said.Around 2 a.m. Sunday, a person told police five or six men had stolen cell phones from a group of people on Prosperity Lane near Faber Way, San Diego police Officer Sarah Foster said.A little more than two hours later, at about 4:15 a.m., someone flagged down an officer on Rockford Drive near Pontiac Street to report they had been robbed at gunpoint, Foster said.PHOTOS: ,000 reward offered in string of Wells Fargo Bank robberiesThere was no information on what was stolen. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A baby hippo was born Saturday night at the San Diego Zoo and is now freely exploring its habitat, although always under the watchful eye of her mother. The calf, the 9th birthed by Funani since she arrived at the Zoo, is yet to be given a name."Less than ten minutes after it was born, it was already on the beach," Senior Wildlife Care Specialist Jennifer Chapman told 10News. "Out of the pool, on the beach, so right away we knew this was a strong calf."Funani can already be seen exhibiting the behaviors of hippo mothers, including licking sand off her calf, nudging her into the water, and making sure she is coming up to the surface for air. "That bond is already starting and she can start to train the calf immediately," Chapman said. "This is where you go. This is where you don't go. Listen to me. And she goes through all of that with the calf and it's really from minute one."Because Funani is very protective of the calf, the father, Otis, is being kept in a separate area from the other two. They will eventually rotate into the publicly-facing part of the habitat.The last calf born at the Zoo was a male named Tony in 2017. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family moving from Philadelphia to San Diego says they had their belongings stolen within the first 30 minutes of being here.The family says it all happened in the parking lot of a Target store in Mission Valley. The cargo carrier atop their car, stolen from the roof.The family says they think the suspects who stole the items may be professionals. Michael Kaminis says he thinks the thieves knew what they were doing when they unhooked the carrier without leaving a mark. “I was in shock, the kids were crying.”Kaminis says despite the setback, his family is staying positive. “You can’t let a thing like this deter a big life decision, they’re still on board, they love the idea of San Diego.
