DUNDEE, Michigan — A 39-year-old woman was charged in connection with a fraudulent dog sale scheme.Police said Vanessa Young sold twelve sick puppies to unsuspecting buyers.Most of the dogs were sold for 0. Young told the buyers the dogs were healthy and registered with the American Kennel Club. However, the buyers discovered the claims to be false and the dogs became very ill shortly after the sale – and some even died, said police. Many of the victims spent thousands of dollars in veterinary care while trying to save and treat the puppies.Dundee Police Chief Tim Garbo said Young’s arrest came after a year-long investigation.Young is charged with felony defrauding and false pretenses and could face up to 5 years in prison or a ,000 fine.She was arraigned in First District Court of Monroe on Tuesday and has been released on bond. 860

El Cajon (KGTV)- An El Cajon Family is on the edge after a man tried to break into their home through their toddler’s bedroom. The family lives off Chase Avenue. Liz Jasiak says she noticed a handprint on her son’s bedroom window on Christmas Eve. When she went outside, there was a latex glove sitting behind the trash bins, near the window, in their backyard. “You have this little person who is depending on you to take care of them and their safety,” says Jasiak. “So it's definitely a sense of violation.”Surveillance video shows the man walking up to the home and lingering on the front porch moments after she leaves to take her son to daycare. The video then shows the man leaving but returns and disappears on the other side of the home. “It’s kind of creepy to think that someone was watching my habits or my moves because the moment we left he immediately enters our yard, says Jasiak.”The family says multiple screens to the windows of their home were cut around the same time the suspect tried to break in. The family has reported the crime to the El Cajon Police Department. They say they will be adding extra security to their home. 1156

El Cajon has the second largest number of Chaldean residents in the country."We as Chaldeans believe in the hope, and the resurrection, and the hope of what Jesus gives us," says Father Daniel Shaba.The church is the center of the Chaldean community in El Cajon. Hundreds of people gather at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral for services each day.Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonMany Chaldean families left their home country of Iraq searching for a better life, after decades of war and violence against Christians and the church."We all share the same story of leaving and fleeing this persecution in Iraq," says Shaba. He says his family stayed in Greece before being cleared to come to the U.S. in 1994.According to the church, the first known Chaldean migrant came to San Diego in 1951. Within 30 years, the population grew to approximately 2,500. Today, nearly 40,000 Chaldean families have made El Cajon their home."The best part of El Cajon is the community," says doctor John Kasawa.Kasawa sees 15 to 20 patients a day, many of whom are Chaldean. Kasawa says he's one of few Chaldean doctors born in the U.S. He practices holistic and western medicine. Kasawa says his culture sparked his interest in becoming a doctor."They planted the seeds of how natural foods and drinking can have a very beneficial effect on longevity and really quality of life," Kasawa said.Detective Louie Michael, with the El Cajon Police Department, says he's grateful for his parents' bravery."At age 5, my dad was in the military, under that regime, and then we escaped from Iraq to turkey in a refugee camp and then came here at the end of '93," says Michael.He has been with El Cajon Police Department for more than ten years."I looked at the benefit of having a community that has nobody that they can speak to," says Michael. "For ten years, I was the only cop in the department that spoke Arabic and Aramaic."With Michael's help, the department now has five Chaldean officers on the force. EL CAJON (KGTV) - Amid the new COVID-19 restrictions, some local churches are expected to begin holding services outdoors.At Shadow Mountain Church in El Cajon, the sounds of the gospel have been a bit more crisp."Sound is incredible. No echoes, feels intimate ... like church," said Pastor David Jeremiah.Jeremiah says last month, when it became clear COVID-19 capacity restrictions would be too limiting indoors, they decided to move their services outside."Turned out to be a perfect amphitheater," said Jeremiah.A stage has been set up in one of their parking lots. The seating is sectioned off by families, each grouping set 6 feet apart. Services have been moved to the evening to escape the heat. Masks and bottled water are handed out to those who need them. Any singing is mostly limited to musicians on stage to minimize the coronavirus risk."It's our way of doing church. It's the only thing we can do so that's what we do," said Jeremiah.It's also going to be what other churches will do after recent coronavirus restrictions banned indoor church services. At the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Mira Mesa, an email was sent out announcing weekend outdoor masses.In Poway, officials approved a plan to share park space with places of worship and fitness centers. The city of El Cajon is also weighing a similar plan.
