CHENGDU, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- All the nine people missing in mudslides caused by heavy rains in southwest China's Sichuan Province were dead as the last two bodies were recovered over the weekend, the provincial government said late Sunday.     Rocks and mud buried a residential quarter of Sinohydro Bureau 10, a hydropower engineering and construction company in Jinyang County, early Friday, leaving nine workers missing. BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Sirens wailed in a number of Chinese cities Friday to remind people of the Sept. 18 invasion and occupation by Japanese troops in 1931.     "We should not forget the past. The history tells us that we will be beaten if we are week," said Yang Jianhua, a 56-year-old worker who beat the bell at the 9.18 History Museum.     Dozens of cities across China including Harbin, Changchun and Xi'an also sounded the alarms at 9:18 a.m. to remind the people of the humiliating history.     On Sept. 18 in 1931, Shenyang resounded with the noise of cannons and explosions when Japanese forces attacked the barracks of Chinese troops. The move marked the beginning of a Japanese occupation that lasted 14 years.     A history museum in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province, opened to the public for free as from Sept. 18. The Museum covers 10,600 square meters with more than 3,000 historical documents and materials.     An exhibition in Beijing displayed 220 photos and 260 items of historical relics on ordinary people's fighting against Japanese troops. The exhibition will run until April 30 in 2010.

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese legislator said Wednesday that China will promote social exchanges with Myanmar to boost bilateral ties.     "We attach importance to and support friendly exchanges and cooperation between social groups and organizations in China and Myanmar, which will contribute to the development of bilateral ties," said Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in a meeting with a delegation from a government-supported organization from Myanmar.     Zhou, also president of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, briefed the eight-member delegation on China's political and economic situation, its measures in tackling the global downturn and pledged to boost economic and trade cooperation with the international community, including Myanmar. GUANGZHOU, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- One person is missing and more than a million residents affected as typhoon Koppu landed in southern China's Guangdong Province Tuesday, local authorities said.     About 1.06 million people in 69 townships in Jiangmen and Yangjiang cities were feeling the effect of the storm at 6 p.m., said Guangdong Flooding and Drought Relief Headquarters. One person in Zhuhai City is missing.     In Shenzhen City, 169 flights were delayed on Tuesday, stranding nearly 10,000 passengers.     The typhoon, the 15th this year, has brought heavy rains to Guangdong.     In Yangjiang City, where the typhoon downgraded into a strong tropical storm, fallen trees and branches could be seen along the roads.     In Sanya City in the southern island province of Hainan, the typhoon brought rain of more than 167 millimeters.     Shipping services across the southern Qiongzhou Strait, which have been suspended since Monday afternoon, were expected to resume Wednesday.     Local experts have warned of flash flooding, with the possible dangers of mudslides and landslides.     Koppu would bring heavy rain to most parts of southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan and Guangdong during the next two days, China's central observatory said.
