Following Bill Clinton’s sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump Tuesday evening, Barack Obama gave his sharpest scolding of Trump since inauguration day.In Obama’s speech he delivered Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention, Obama lashed Trump for his approach to the presidency.“I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously; that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care,” Obama said.“But he never did. He’s shown no interest in putting in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves.”Obama, who was largely silent during the first three years of Trump’s tenure, has become more vocal during this election year. While generally avoiding direct shots at Trump, Obama has prodded Trump for his handling of a number of situations. But his speech Wednesday went as the sharpest reproach Obama has delivered on Trump.“Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t,” Obama said. “And the consequences of that failure are severe. 170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic institutions threatened like never before.”Trump, who got word late Wednesday of Obama’s censure, responded in kind.“When I listen to this and see the horror that he left us, the stupidity of the transactions that he has made. Look what we are doing,” Trump said. Trump continued by boasting about building the border wall and improving the economy since Obama left office."“President Obama did not do a good job,” Trump added. “The reason I am here is because President Obama and Joe Biden, because if they did a good job, I would not be here. Probably if they did a good job, I would not have even run. I would've been very happy.” 2113

Four lions at the Barcelona Zoo tested positive for coronavirus, according to veterinary officials. This is the second report of large felines contracting the disease at a zoo.Barcelona Zoo in Spain says two staff members also tested positive for COVID-19 during the outbreak last month, in addition to four of their lions, according to the BBC: Zala, Nima, Run Run, who are all females, and one male, Kiumbe. A statement from the zoo said the animals had been showing upper respiratory symptoms, and were given a coronavirus test.“The Zoo has worked with international experts such as the Veterinary Service of the Bronx Zoo, the only one that has documented cases of Sars-CoV-2 infection in felines,” a statement from the zoo reads. In April, four tigers and three lions tested positive for COVID-19 at the Bronx Zoo."The lions were given veterinary care for their mild clinical condition - similar to a very mild flu condition - through anti-inflammatory treatment and close monitoring, and the animals responded well,” a statement from Barcelona Zoo reads. The zoo reports most symptoms have improved in the lions, other than some minor coughing and sneezing. An investigation is underway to determine how the lions became infected in Barcelona, according to the BBC they may have been in contact with an asymptomatic staff member. 1340

For Army veteran Leonardo De Angelis, COVID-19 has been hard in more ways than one. He came down with the novel coronavirus in April and was immediately taken to the VA hospital where he was treated and tested every week"If he tested positive, he would have to stay for another week. So, he was in there for a month," said his daughter Lacy De Angelis.Seven months later, De Angelis is still dealing with complications."He has permanent lung scarring in his lungs. He still can’t do stairs. He’s still doing physical therapy," said Lacy De Angelis.De Angelis also had a bout of pneumonia. And he also suffers from PTSD, which he and his daughter say has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic."I see shadows and I see them in the daytime and at night. They give me a pill to take so I can go to sleep," said De Angelis, who served in the Vietnam War in the late 60s."They said that because he was in isolation and he was so bored, he was seeing shadows. He would be running, and yelling, and screaming in his sleep at night," explained Lacy De Angelis. And he’s not alone. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says about 30 percent of Vietnam veterans have had PTSD in their lifetime. De Angelis is one of the more than 83,000 vets in VA homes across the country who have contracted COVID-19. More than 4,200 have died."We just lost another one the other day," said De Angelis."They’re seeing each other die again. They’re such a vulnerable population. They come in here and they make connections with other vets and then they catch COVID and they die. It’s hard for them," said Lacy De Angelis.Reliving the tragedy and trauma brought on by a war he served in more than 50 years ago, all over again. 1711

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. -- The sheriff's department is investigating after vandals left anti-Semitic graffiti in several locations in Floyd County over the weekend. The Jewish Community Relations Council shared an image of the vandalism at the Azalea Hills retirement community Monday evening.“The JCRC condemns the anti-Semitic and homophobic vandalism perpetrated against the Azalea Hills retirement community in Floyd Knobs, Indiana,” the group said in a post on their page Tuesday. The Floyd County Sheriff told WHAS-TV that they believe a group of teens was responsible for the vandalism and they do not believe it was targeted at anyone in particular. That same night, deputies found damage to several other areas in town including anti-Semitic graffiti on a school bus, damaged mailboxes and an overturned sheriff’s department trailer.“It’s damage to personal property, that’s the issue,” Sheriff Frank Loop said. “It’s not about any kind of hate crimes or anything like that.”The vandalism at Azalea Hills was cleaned up by Tuesday afternoon. The incident comes just a month after anti-Semitic graffiti was found at a Carmel synagogue, prompting Indiana's Governor Eric Holcomb to push for a hate crime law in Indiana. The Hoosier state is one of only five states in the country that does not currently have a hate crime law on the books. So far no arrests have been made. 1396
