(KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City. The houses of worship that were vandalized included two historically Black churches where people ripped down Black Lives Matter banners. VISTA (CNS) - A man who fatally beat his cousin in the front yard of an Oceanside home was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder.Joel Cardona, 37, was found guilty for the Aug. 2, 2018, death of Nestor Jurado, 37, following a trial that began last week at the Vista courthouse. A sentencing date has not yet been set, but the second-degree murder conviction means Cardona faces at least 15 years to life in state prison.Cardona was arrested on the morning of Aug. 2 during a tussle with Jurado in front of a home on Arthur Avenue, according to police and prosecutors. VISTA (CNS) - A 59-year-old motorist was killed Friday in a solo crash on state Route 78 near Shadowridge Golf Club.The man lost control of the Ford F-150 for unknown reasons while driving in the far left-hand westbound lane of the freeway west of Sycamore Avenue in Vista shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The vehicle veered to the right, crossing all lanes before leaving the roadway, plunging down an embankment and striking a tree, CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe said.Paramedics took the motorist, an Oceanside resident, to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
