SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Board of Supervisors announced Monday that the county will close bars without a license to sell food ahead of the July 4 weekend in an effort to slow rising coronavirus cases.San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will close all bars, wineries, and breweries that do not have a license to serve food. California took a similar stance with several counties over the weekend."Bars are purely social settings where different people and groups often mix. It's a simple reality that alcohol consumption impairs judgment and may lead to less compliance with physical distancing guidelines," Fletcher said. "People often spend more time in a bar than other establishments like a restaurant for eating."RELATED: Gov. Of those, two outbreaks were traced back to restaurants/bars. During Monday's press conference, the county wasn't able to specify how many of the region's total cases had visited bars.Fletcher added that the county is reinstating an order that alcohol can only be consumed while customers are simultaneous eating meals and can't be ordered alone. A third measure was added that anyone who does go to a bar, brewery, or winery that serves food can only consume their food and drinks while seated at a table.The new measures take effect on July 1.Fletcher said in addition to the actions, they anticipate "instituting additional changes to our public health order, and additional dialing back and guidance that are a part of our efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19."RELATED: At least 6 companies working on COVID vaccines in San DiegoThe county is also pausing any further business reopenings until after Aug. 1, even if given guidance by the state.County officials and health officials are scheduled to meet with hospital CEOs Monday to look at what steps they recommend taking. "The most patriotic thing we can do on the July 4 weekend is adhere to the public health orders and work to save lives."The announcement comes as San Diego County set a new record for positive coronavirus cases at 498, bringing the region's total to 13,832 total cases. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The restrictions due to the pandemic are exposing us to another threat.Between restaurants and gyms being outside and SDG&E urging energy conservation during the heat wave with all of us at home, we're more exposed to the heat and the potential dangers that come with it.Nurse Practitioner Samantha Gambles Farr works in the ICU for UC San Diego Health and said she's seen a handful of cases in the last month, which is more than normal.Each year, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says an average of 658 people die from extreme heat in the U.S.Gambles Farr said it's important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, "when you have heat exhaustion, your skin will be cold, clammy and you'll be sweaty. When you bridge over to heat stroke you'll have no sweating, you'll be red, and your body temperature will be over 103 degrees."Other symptoms for heat exhaustion include:? Muscle cramping ? Fatigue ? Headache ? Nausea or vomiting ? Dizziness or faintingSymptoms for heat stroke:? A body temperature greater than 103°F (39.4°C) ? Red, hot, and dry skin (no sweating) ? Rapid, strong pulse ? UnconsciousnessIf you're suffering heat stroke, Gambles Farr says your body is literally cooking, "you can start having what we call multi-system organ failure in which your kidneys can be affected, you're not getting rid of waste in that point in time and a lot of times these patients become unconscious."One of the dangers with drinking alcohol while in the heat, Gambles Farr explained, is that person isn't moving around as much and therefore unable to recognize the affect of the heat. She said the situation becomes most dangerous when someone who is intoxicated passes out in the heat.If you see someone suffering from heat stroke, call 911. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — There have been 137 community outbreaks reported in San Diego County since June 1, according to San Diego County health officials.Since March 25, the county has reported 164 community outbreaks that have resulted in 1,220 coronavirus cases:March: 3April: 16May: 8June: 34July: 93August: 10County officials broke those numbers down from June 1, 2020, to Aug. 4, 2020, where the majority of community outbreaks have been reported at restaurant/bar and business settings. See the data below:The county adds that community outbreaks between June and August from business, restaurant, and restaurant/bar settings have resulted in a total of 212 cases in June, 508 cases in July, and 48 cases in August.On Wednesday, the county reported 30 community outbreaks, much high than the county's trigger of seven in a week.Even though a restaurant or restaurant/bar is linked to a community outbreak, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten says that doesn't mean a business is failing to adhere to public health orders.RELATED: San Diego County Board approves plan to allow businesses to operate at county parks"It may not mean there's anything going on wrong at the restaurant or at the restaurant/bar," Wooten said.
