SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Bike the Bay celebrated its 11th annual ride on Sunday but this year it added some safety changes. Roughly 3,000 people participated in the popular bike ride. The ride is 25 miles and takes cyclists over the Coronado Bridge, through Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City. It's the only day of the year where bikes are allowed on the iconic bridge. This year, the event made some changes after an accident during the ride last year. Christina Rocheleau who was not participating in the ride collided head-on with a participant who was trying to pass cyclists along the trail. Rocheleau suffered a fractured nose and three fractured vertebrae. She hasn't been on a bike since. At the time of the accident, organizers told us that they take safety very seriously. This year, they added more signs along the route, more volunteers to guide cyclists and made the route all one-way. All of the proceeds for the ride go towards the San Diego County Bike Coalition, an organization that promotes bicycles as a form of transportation and advocates for safer roads for cyclists.   1156

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Border officials say they have received enough funding to replace 100 miles of border fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.The Trump Administration will put forth about .6 billion through the 2018 Congressional appropriations.  The new border wall provides a comprehensive system of wall, lighting, and technologies, Acting Commissioner Ronald Vitiello said during a press conference Friday.In San Diego, a total of 28 miles of border barrier will be replaced. Fourteen miles of "dilapidated" border wall constructed with landing mats will be replaced with new steel bollard wall, according to Vitiello. Though, Wilson added a shutdown was worth ensuing more border security for him and other agents. "It's about darn time Congress do something about border security. They keep punting, and we're very, very tired of it. San Diego (KGTV) -- County leaders are taking steps to provide more access to coronavirus testing to some of the local communities hit hardest by the pandemic.The new outreach program will begin with a free new testing site at the Mexican Consulate at 1549 India St. starting at 8 a.m. Monday and will run until 3:30 p.m.No appointments are needed.The County of San Diego has been trying to expand testing and outreach in the Latino community, which has been the hardest hit by the coronavirus.Of the more than 42,000 confirmed cases in the county, Latinos account for 63% of that total.County and community leaders say the Consulate’s opening as a testing location will provide an accessible, safe way for San Diego’s Mexican and Latino communities to receive COVID-19 testing.The additional testing locations coming online in the coming weeks will function on a 14-day rotation.
