LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A deputy was uninjured following a crash involving a patrol car in Lakeside Thursday night. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened on Mapleview Street near State Route 67. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, but authorities say the deputy was uninjured. The condition of the other driver and the circumstances surrounding the crash are unclear. 421

LAKE HODGES (KGTV) - A San Diego woman tells 10News she was bit by a tick at Lake Hodges and diagnosed with Lyme disease a month later. Sheila Greer has hiked Lake Hodges for 33 years she tells 10News, "I've never had an issue." Greer hiked the same trails at the end of June. She says that's when she believes she got bit by a tick, "The trail had bushes coming up that I would have to brush through and something in the back of my mind said, that's a prime area for ticks. But, I discounted it because I've hiked there for 33 years." Greer got diagnosed with Lyme disease a month after the tick bite. Usually, tick bites have a ring around the bite but her's did not. For that reason, she thought it was a spider bite and waited to see a doctor. She tells 10News she struggled with neck pains and unbearable headaches. Greer finally got a Western Blot test which confirmed her diagnosis. The County of San Diego tells 10News, "Lyme disease is rare San Diego County and we have not had a positive tick found in many years." Because Greer thought she had a spider bite, she didn't know to look for a tick to bring to the county for testing. Greer has been seeing a doctor regularly and is now on antibiotics, "I'm taking antibiotics and I'll be taking antibiotics for a minimum of three months, maybe much longer." 1322

(CNS) - A man was in custody Wednesday following his arrest for allegedly killing a fellow patient at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, authorities said.Jesse Martinez, 37, was booked on suspicion of murder and his bail was set at million, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.Martinez has been charged with murder, a hate crime enhancement, and elder abuse, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he is scheduled to appear in Antelope Valley Court on Monday.The crime occurred about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at the facility, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, the sheriff's department reported."(The victim) was housed in a two-person room inside the hospital with the suspect, who was also there receiving treatment," a sheriff's department statement said. "The suspect became upset when the victim started to pray. Legislation requiring shoppers to wear masks in New Jersey stores is one step closer to becoming law.A bill proposed by state Democratic lawmakers got the stamp of approval from a New Jersey Assembly committee Thursday.If passed, customers could be fined between and 0 for being in a business without a mask that covers the nose and mouth. The bill would apply to any store that has posted signage saying masks are required.Assembly Democrats who backed the bill called the legislation "a matter of life and death" and said there needs to be a penalty for those who don't do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.Republican lawmakers called the bill ludicrous and an attack on residents' civil liberties.Some suggested a better policy would be for businesses to refuse to serve customers who choose not to wear masks.Hoboken, New Jersey tried to pass a similar mask ordinance in August, attempting to fine people 0 for not wearing a mask in any place where social distancing was not possible. It ultimately did not pass.In New York City, MTA riders can now be fined for refusing to wear a mask on buses, subways and trains.As of midnight in Connecticut, anyone can now be fined 0 for violating mask and social distancing orders.
