A High Surf Advisory is issued until Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Waves reached heights up to eight feet Thursday and along Ocean Beach Pier, some waves reached 10 feet. As we normally see during high surf, advanced surfers made their way to the beaches. In Ocean Beach, crews continued their work to repair the pier despite the high surf below. Waves up to 10 feet crashed into the pier. One Ocean Beach resident tells 10News, "you know we spend all this money to live here and this is one of our facilities, it's sad when its closed". Crews are still on track to reopen the pier by Memorial Day, according to the City of San Diego. 709

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Walt Disney Company is planning to lay off about 32,000 of its employees early next year.The layoffs were announced in a filing with the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday.The filing says the 32,000 workers affected are primarily in Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, and they’ll be terminated in the first half of fiscal 2021.Additionally, as of Oct. 3, about 37,000 employees who were not expecting to be terminated were placed on furlough, according to the filing.The news of the 32,000 layoffs comes about two months after Disney said it would be shedding about 28,000 jobs from its parks division in September. Officials told The Associated Press at the time that two-thirds of those layoff involved part-time workers, but they ranged from salaried employees to hourly workers.CNBC reports that the 28,000 workers are included in the 32,000 layoffs.The layoffs are a result of COVID-19's impact on Disney’s businesses and the theme park industry as a whole.“Due to the current climate, including COVID-19 impacts, and changing environment in which we are operating, the Company has generated efficiencies in its staffing, including limiting hiring to critical business roles, furloughs and reductions-in-force,” wrote Disney in its filing.As of Oct. 3, Disney says it employed about 203,000. (KGTV) — Farmers in Oceanside are gearing up to harvest a never before seen crop in San Diego County: Coffee.“We have an aggressive plan to make Southern California the next leader in the super specialty coffee industry,” said Jay Ruskey of Frinj Coffee.He began working with farms in San Diego five years ago to start planting coffee in old avocado orchards.This summer, they will finally harvest their first crop.“We tried to choose the varieties that not only perform well, but have a certain flavor characteristic that the consumer really enjoys,” said Ruskey.Frinj has also been growing coffee in Santa Barbara, where they have already started harvesting the beans.Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is the first local outlet to sell it. Their website has one pound of the Cuicateco grown by Frinj for 0.“If the coffee quality matches the price, that's all that matters,” said Jeff Taylor, president of Bird Rock Coffee.They recently sent the coffee to the website, Coffee Review, which gave the Cuicateco a 92 out of 100.He said he has been working for six months with Ruskey to get the coffee in his stores. He hopes to get beans from Oceanside as well when they become available in the fall.“I see a rapid expansion I think it's going to be huge,” said Taylor of San Diego county’s potential as a coffee growing region.Ruskey is already ahead of him, planning to double the number of plants they have already in 2019.“We would love to see another 50,000 coffee plants here in Southern California this year, and expand to millions in the next ten years,” said Ruskey. 1594
