BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- An awarding ceremony was held here Wednesday to honor 214 outstanding demobilized soldiers in the country.     President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with the retired servicemen at the Great Hall of the People and congratulated them on their achievements. NANJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the world's major reserve currency will maintain stable, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao here Sunday when meeting with three Euro Group leaders.     He was speaking with Euro Group President and Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and European Union Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia ahead of the 12th EU-China summit.     China has maintained the stability of the exchange rate of the Renminbi (RMB), making an important contribution to global financial stability and economic development, he said.     He said China will continue to enhance the flexibility of the RMB exchange rate, acting on its own initiative and in a controllable and gradual manner, and keep it basically stable at reasonable, balanced levels.     Juncker said the EU is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China on monetary policies.

BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang urged the country's railway departments to make efforts to promote safe railway transport and build quality railway projects to better serve socio-economic development.     Continuous efforts should be made to relieve railway transport capacity shortage and further expand the country's railways network, Zhang told a national railway conference.     "Although shortage of the country's passenger and goods transportation by railways has been eased to some extent, railways are still a bottleneck restricting economic development," Zhang said.     He stressed railway technology innovation, railway project quality and improvement of services for the convenience of passengers.     Zhang also urged railway departments make full preparations to cope with traffic peak during the upcoming holiday, when millions of people rush back home for the Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 14.     In 2009, China's railways saw a passenger flow of 1.52 billion and transported 3.32 billion tonnes of freight, both breaking records. The country's railways are expected to see a record of 1.64 billion passenger trips in 2010, up 7.6 percent from last year.

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ruling parties of China and Japan on Thursday pledged to deepen trust and work together for a stronger strategic relationship of mutual benefit between the two countries.     The pledge came out of a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Ichiro Ozawa in Beijing on Thursday afternoon. Ozawa is leading a delegation of 600-strong members, including 146 DPJ lawmakers from the upper and lower houses of the Japanese Diet, for a four-day visit in Beijing. The program has so far sent about 350 Japanese lawmakers and more than 2,000 representatives from various circles to visit China.

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's central government launched 20 venture capital funds with seven local governments on Friday to provide investment in the country's high-tech sectors, the top economic planner said in a statement on its web site.     The investment would go to high-tech sectors including the electronic and information sector, biological and pharmaceutical industry, new energy sector and projects related to energy conservation and environmental protection, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said.     The 20 funds would collect about nine billion yuan (1.31 billion U.S. dollars), of which, one billion yuan was invested by the central government, 1.2 billion yuan by local governments and the rest from private investment, the NDRC said.     The funds were aimed to direct capital into new industries and competitive high-tech enterprises to push forward self-innovation, it said.     The NDRC and the Ministry of Finance signed the agreement with 7 local governments of Beijing, Jilin, Shanghai, Anhui, Hunan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
