"However, the market has not turned around as much as we had hoped, and additional relief is needed to prevent more than 60,000 aviation sector employees from losing their jobs beginning October 1. This legislation would extend the critical Payroll Support Program to provide support for passenger air carriers, cargo air carriers, and aviation contractors. It would also preserve our nationwide service by requiring airlines to maintain routes as a condition for receiving assistance. Maintaining a strong national air transportation system is critical for today's economy and the continued recovery."The ALPA says the deal also offers pilots over the age of 50 with 10 years of experience second round of first separation options. According to several media reports, more than 20 passengers on an Air India flight from New Delhi to Wuhan, China, tested positive for COVID-19 when they landed.According to CNN, 23 passengers tested positive for the virus on the Oct. 30 flight; 19 of them were asymptomatic. The four symptomatic passengers were sent to a local hospital and were quarantined.The Times of India reported that AI officials released a statement saying all the passengers had negative lab results from certified labs when they boarded the plane en route to Wuhan.The Oct. 30 flight marked the sixth time AI had flown to China, and the first time to Wuhan, during the pandemic, Huffington Post reported.On Monday, India's Embassy in Beijing issued a statement saying that the Indian government would assist stranded nationals abroad. After a gunshot wound to the back paralyzed him, Javier Flores turned his anger into art.“For me it’s a meditative process,” he said. “It’s a way I can focus something bigger than myself.”Learning to overcome his own obstacles, Flores is now fighting for more disability rights around the world.“As an artist, I feel it’s art job to provoke and insight dialogue and conversation,” he said.Conversation about the United States' failure to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, an international human rights treaty intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.“I’m disabled and so for me it’s a slap in the face,” Flores said. “I felt like it was an injustice and so it’s one of the things I wanted to carry out through the aesthetics of cubism.”With help from his art students at Access Gallery, Flores created a piece titled “Really?” in an attempt to bring awareness to his fight.“The image is an adaptation of Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica,” Flores said of the artwork. “Instead of the horse, there’s a seeing eye dog. Alyson McClaran is a photojournalist who has captured many of the raw moments and emotions in 2020, including a photo of nurses blocking protestors in Colorado earlier this year.“The nurse kind of put his hands out,” McClaran said. “Then, the gentleman got in his face and the nurse just looked away from him and ignored him.”That photo would end up gaining international attention. “Within 30 minutes, I had thousands of shares,” she said. And for good reason.“I remember when I first saw it, it was really striking,” Hahrie Han, professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University, said. “It sort of felt like it brought together a lot of the complex streams of conflict and tension that we were having to grapple with as a society.”Han was chosen as a curator for a COVID-19 time capsule created by the non-profit Social Science Research Council, or SSRC. She chose McClaran’s photo.“The act of both people in that picture was an act of trying to make change in some way,” she said. “The people in the cars who are protesting are protesting against the shutdown order and they're using their right to free assembly and free speech to voice their concern. And likewise, the healthcare worker is standing up against that saying, 'No, we want people to stay home because that's how you’re going to protect us. That's how we are going to protect each other.'”As we close out this dynamic year, the SSRC decided to create this time capsule, not only for future social researchers but for the general public, as a reflection on 2020.The content ranges from ironic toilet paper shortage-related memes to images of hope and human connection.“They were like instant artifacts of that moment and there were a lot of those moments,” Alexa Dietrich, program director at the Social Science Research Council, said. “I believe it has accomplished a set of goals in the sense that bringing this type of analysis and perspective to much broader audiences.”Dietrich said the capsule is meant to bring about ongoing reflection, just as these curators had to do when coming up with their selections to put in the project.“That image I chose is the sort of 'how would you like to pay?' sign you'd see at any retail store or restaurant. But instead of having just the Visa, Mastercard, or Amex, it also has a roll of toilet paper,” said Bill Maurer, professor of anthropology and law at UC Irvine and another curator for the time capsule. “It really spoke to things like the concerns over hoarding that were taking place early on the pandemic, particularly around toilet paper. But, then, also that broader philosophical question, when you're in a global pandemic and there is an economic shutdown, what really is valuable anymore?”The time capsule is part of a bigger project the SSRC is putting together, free of use, to offer a range of perspectives and thoughts on the past year. “We’re not just delivering, we’re also really trying to learn and promote conversations,” Dietrich said.“The world is just in this moment of dynamism and flux and so to take this snapshot this moment in time, to think about what we want to capture and to create a historical record for future generations, I think is really important,” Han said. 3225

Aeroméxico airline confirmed on Tuesday that a flight has crashed near Durango, Mexico, and the airline was evaluating the damage.The incident took place near General Guadalupe Victoria International Airport in Durango, Gov. José Rosas Aispuro Torres wrote on Twitter. Torres added that emergency officials were responding to the scene. Aispuro confirmed that there were no reported fatalities stemming from Tuesday's incident.A spokesperson for the airline told ABC News that some survivors were being taken to area hospitals, while some were able to walk away from the crash. Video from the incident showed rainy conditions, and some smoke billowing near the airport. The airline said that 100 people were on board the Embraer 190 plane that was taking off from Durango en route to Mexico City.  840
