SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An elderly Army veteran is warning others after he was brutally attacked while riding his mobility scooter in North Park.Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, 81-year-old Phil Severns was headed to a grocery store on the scooter when it happened."I just felt a sharp blow on the right side of my head. It almost knocked me out ... My glasses came off and were broken,  and my head hurt terribly," said Severns.Severns says he turned around and saw two concerned women who described his attacker. He looked and saw a man on the run a block away, described as a black man in his mid-20s with long hair, a lean build, and blue shirt and shorts.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodAt that moment, Severns says he kept thinking that he had to find out who did it. Severns decided to go after him, following him into a nearby CVS Pharmacy parking lot, where he found the man swinging a sock that appeared to be filled with rocks."Confronted him and asked him why he hit me," said Severns.The answer? A claim that Severns had hit him first, which Severns calls untrue. Before the man took off, there was more odd behavior.    "Just walking in circles and waving that sock," said Severns.It appears he wasn't done. Across the street at Walgreens, managers tell 10News they believe the same homeless man punched a clerk an hour later, the second such altercation with the man in the past year. It's a revelation that makes Severns more fearful."He's dangerous and acting crazy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect who reportedly sexually assaulted a female student at Mesa College has been taken into custody Friday night, according to the San Diego Community College Police.The sexual assault happened around 1:30 p.m. on the grassy area outside the Mesa College LRC.The suspect reportedly walked with the woman before pinning her down in the grass and trying to put his hand down her pants and under her shirt.Police released no further details about the suspect Saturday.  509

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second person has died from the flu in San Diego County so far this season, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.The agency said the 100-year-old woman who died on October 19 had underlying medical conditions.“Influenza can lead to serious complications and even death, especially among the elderly,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer.A total of 316 cases of the flu have been reported so far this season in San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman in Carmel Valley is warning others after she saw a man masturbating in public late Wednesday night. The woman, who didn't want to be identified, said she was doing a late-night load of laundry when she saw a man in a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his face and no pants on masturbating. The incident happened at an apartment complex near Seabreeze Farms Drive and Carmel Knolls Drive. “When I screamed ‘oh my god’ he didn’t budge, he didn’t move, he didn’t even look up at me. He just kept doing what he was doing,” she said. “He didn’t run, he just was in his, he was so comfortable.” She reported it to police and management and was told the same thing happened to another neighbor last week. Police told 10News they are investigating.  818

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Aldofo Otanez was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 17-years-old."When he's medicated correctly he's very funny, he's always very caring very caring person," said his brother Tomas. Aldofo has been in and out of treatment centers his whole life. Most recently, a hospital assigned him to a home in Spring Valley called Mi Casa Es Su Casa. "Right away we said, 'no, he's never been in a place like this,"' said Tomas. "People don't fit in there. They don't, they're crumbled up, there's about 3 or 4 people per room."Tomas was planning a trip to visit his brother on February 16th. When he called the facility, he says they told him Aldofo had been missing for two days. "It's disturbing," said Tomas. "I mean, it shouldn't happen, a simple phone call, 'your brother isn't here, it's been a day or two'. Give us a call..nothing."It's been more than two weeks now with no sign of Adolfo. "It's very sad, I'm taking it as calm as I can so I can think about what to do next." The family is passing out flyers and posting pictures to Instagram with hopes that someone knows where he is. "The family is pretty sad, I've got a lot of siblings and they're all very worried.""He has no money, no ID, no social security on him," said Tomas. "So he's just stranded out there somewhere."10News spoke to the manager of Mi Casa Es Su Casa who says he didn't call the family right away because he claims to have lost their contact info. He also says he didn't file a missing persons report because police would not let him. San Diego Police checked their records and said they never spoke to the facility that day. The family is holding a search party on March 3rd in the Starbucks parking lot at 8626 Jamacha Boulevard.
