WARREN, Mich. – A suspect is in custody for the execution-style murders of three people in Michigan, including a 6-year-old boy, his father and the dad’s fiancée.Last Friday, a person of interest in the heinous murder of the child and 28-year-old woman was being questioned by officers, according to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.Warren police say they will present their case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office Tuesday morning.According to Dwyer, officers did a wellness check at an Otis Avenue home in Warren around 10 a.m. on Oct. 1. The front door was open, but there was no sign of a forced entry.That’s when police discovered the bodies of the boy and woman, both fatally shot execution-style in the basement, Dwyer said.Warren police are working with Detroit police after it was confirmed the 6-year-old victim was the son of a 31-year-old man whose body was found in a burned-out vehicle on Detroit’s east side. The 28-year-old woman is the girlfriend, police confirmed.According to Detroit Major Crimes Commander Eric Decker, officers responded to the vehicle fire report around 2 a.m. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was a rental car, which was then used to identify the 31-year-old victim and trace his connection to the home in Warren.The man’s initial cause of death was from a gunshot wound. The vehicle was burned after the shooting.Dwyer said the department has secured video from around the Otis Avenue neighborhood, which will be later released. Authorities have also executed a search warrant on the home and have recovered evidence to test for possible suspect identification.Federal agents are being asked to join the investigation as Warren police anticipate seeking the death penalty in the case.“When you murder an innocent 6-year-old baby, you deserve the death penalty.” Dwyer said. “It was a terrible, terrible scene. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court sounded skeptical Monday that President Donald Trump could categorically exclude people living in the country illegally from the population count used to allot seats among the states in the House of Representatives.But it also appeared possible that the justices could avoid a final ruling on the issue until they know how broadly the Trump administration acts in its final days in office and whether the division of House seats is affected.No president has tried to do what Trump outlined in a memo in July — remove millions of noncitizens from the once-a-decade head count of the U.S. population that determines how many seats each state gets in the House of Representatives, as well as the allocation of some federal funding.Justice Amy Coney Barrett was among several members of the court who said the administration’s argument for broad discretion in deciding whom to exclude is troublesome because “a lot of the historical evidence and long-standing practice really cuts against your position.”The court decided to hear the case on a fast track, based on the administration’s plea for a decision by early January, when Trump is required by law to transmit census numbers to Congress. The Census Bureau is supposed to send the data to Trump by Dec. 31. However, the bureau said last month they are checking anomalies and the data will be delayed. They did not give a new date, only saying they hope some data will be available in January. (KGTV) — Firefighters made short work of a fire that tore through a Vista home and set nearby vegetation ablaze Saturday evening.Vista Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the area of Robelini Drive and El Valle Opulento just before 7 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a brush fire extending into a home at 110 El Valle Opulento.As firefighters battled back the brush fire, other fire crews tackled flames shooting our of the home. Firefighters say that because of the "rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the home," crews were forced to get out of the home and fire the fire from outside.The fire was fully extinguished within about an hour, VFD said. One person was displaced from the home. No injuries were reported. It's not clear how the fire began. The fire is currently under investigation.Firefighters reminded homeowners to have working smoke alarms in their home and clear vegetation away from any structure. 957

(KGTV) - Several North County residents want their money back from a failed Tiny Home community.  Vista resident Greg Dutton said he and a handful of others simply want their ,000 investments back from Janet Ashforth, the brains behind Habitats Tiny Homes, which was planned for a plot of land between Escondido and Poway.“Sounded like a great idea,” said Dutton.  “A whole bunch of tiny homes.  Community garden.  Community clubhouse.”His excitement turned to frustration when he didn’t like the property Ashforth secured.“Really hard to get to.  Hardly any access roads,” he said.Dutton said Ashforth promised to refund his money if he didn’t like the property. However, Dutton requested the refund after Ashforth went into escrow for the property. He showed an email apparently from Ashforth saying he was too late to ask for the refund but she’d return the money anyway.Dutton still hasn’t received his refund. He and several other investors have filed claims at the Courthouse in Vista.10News spoke with Ashforth by phone. She said the project failed “when 30 people didn’t follow through and now they’re expecting their money back.”  She explained none of her investors ordered their tiny homes or took the next steps to keep the project alive.She argued, “The receipt clearly says you can get your deposit back until we open escrow on the property.”  Ashforth said Dutton requested after escrow opened.“I apologize,” she continued. “However, you should take responsibility for the receipt. I don’t have the money to give back because it was invested in the 0,000 property we’re now trying to sell.”Ashforth said she’ll gladly appear in court but admits the money is wrapped up in an empty plot of land. 1826
