SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Coast Guard rescued 13 Mexican nationals from the waters off the coast of La Jolla Saturday.The rescue, located near the Children's Pool, was reported just before 8 a.m., according to the Coast Guard. The 13 individuals, one woman and 12 men, were rescued from a panga boat and brought to shore.Border Patrol officials took the individuals into custody and officials believe they were trying to enter the country illegally.RELATED: One person hurt, possible drug packages found after boat washes ashore in CarlsbadPanga boat attempts to illegally have seen a sharp increased since 2010, according to Border Patrol, as land borders have tightened.Just last month, one person was found injured around several packages of marijuana washed ashore in Carlsbad. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- As elections are quickly approaching, a San Diego man is expressing concerns after discovering what appeared to be undelivered mail ballots and voter guides in City Heights.“I was out walking the dogs, and I found this stack of voter ballots; it was mixed in with ballot envelopes and voter guides,” said Jeremy Alaynick. “Just kept finding them the more I walked.”He sent ABC10News pictures that appeared to show a combination of approximately two dozen unvoted ballots and sample ballot/voter information pamphlets.Alaynick, a professional dog walker, said he did not report the incident immediately because he was walking dogs for a client.“I would have picked them all up and taken them to the post office, but I’m thinking about the dogs, and that just wasn’t running through my mind at that moment,” he said.He was working to report the incident Wednesday.Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, tells ABC 10News, situations like this are uncommon, and investigations are launched as soon as his office is aware.“What we generally do is we touch base with the US Postal Service. It would have been great to receive this information at the time rather than a week later, particularly for those respective voters but also for us to be able to manage it,” he said.Vu said if voters have concerns or haven’t received their ballots by mail, options are available.“We are tracking every single one of these ballots, so when a voter says they have not received their mail ballot, we have the ability to suspend that ballot and reissue them another one,” he said. “If there are voted mail ballots that come back to our office, we compare the signature off of the envelope against the signature on file. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the drop of a banner, the Rock Church replaced the old sign of the Body Shop Strip Club purchased by the church.The church says they’re unsure what they’ll do with the building, but Thursday, they made it clear it’s no longer a strip club.It was quite the presentation, dozens of people, a stage and a sound system. The announcement the church made yesterday officially unveiled Thursday.RELATED: Rock Church buys former strip club in Midway DistrictWith Pastor Miles McPherson leading the charge, a Rock Church banner draped over the sign of the former strip club. “I’m very excited for what this won’t be, and how we can help the girls moving forward,” McPherson said. The church and several investors brought the club and its license for .2 million.Councilmember Lorie Zapf said the move is the beginning of a new future for the Midway with a vision of parks, families and a new welcoming look. “Midway is no longer going to be the red light district of yesteryear.”The problem with the plan, however, is the building sits just feet away from another strip club. “They started harassing me in April, I was called about 15 times by their broker,” said Kathleen Morgan, who owns Les Girls Theater.“It’s easy to stigmatize this type of business. But we don’t even have male bouncers, we don’t even serve alcohol, we’re old school burlesque,” Morgan said.On stage Thursday, was a pledge to take over Morgan’s place. “I’m hoping that they can acquire the property next door. Once the Midway plan is approved, they’ll be able to plan for the future of what’s allowed here by the zoning,” Zapf said.Morgan says investors are trying to driver her out. The church says they aren’t involved in that. “That’s something that will have to take its own course, we’re not necessarily pushing that,” said McPherson.Morgan also says the business has been vandalized recently, adding if she sells, it won’t be to the church. “In 50 years we’ve never had this type of vandalism, we’ve never had these types of issues. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were taken to the hospital after the car they were in crashed into a support column at a Mission Beach apartment building.The collision happened shortly after 12 a.m. on Sunset Court and Bayside Lane, according to San Diego police.The car was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it slammed into a beam that helps hold up the building.Residents heard the crash, with some saying it felt like the entire building was shaking from the impact. Despite the collision, the structure did not appear to sustain major damage.According to witness reports, the male driver appeared to be intoxicated. 10News learned he was evaluated for possible DUI.The man and a female passenger were taken to the hospital with what were described as major injuries.No other injuries were reported. 825

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When Major League Baseball starts its season in empty stadiums, a local company will be the supplying crowd noise - from a video game.At the Padres exhibition game at Petco Park Monday, amid the empty stands, there was the distinct sound of a crowd."Our goal is to help create the most authentic experience we can during these times," said Ramone Russell, Communications and Brand Strategist at San Diego Studio, a branch of Sony Interactive Entertainment.The Sorrento Valley-based San Diego Studio, the creators of MLB's official video game, MLB The Show 20, were tasked with filling up the silence of the ballparks by calling on a large collection of real sounds."We've been going to games for the last 10 years, so we have a giant catalog of audio," said Russell.The catalog contains reactions to just about any kind of play, from a routine play to a home run blast. Each reaction has been digitally remastered for the stadium setting. League officials hoping those sounds will make players feel more comfortable."Baseball players are not used to competing in empty stadiums ... just hoping to providing a normalcy for them," said Russell.Stadium sound engineers for each home team will have access to 75 different effects and reactions."Every single major league baseball team will be able to watch the game in real time and slide those events and reactions up and down, so it sounds authentic," said Russell.Baseball is hoping the crowd noise, along with walk-up music, stadium announcers and in-stadium video, will replicate the in-game experience as much as possible.Many of the teams, including the Padres, will also have cardboard cutouts of fans in some parts of the stadium. 1712
