(KGTV) - A man suspected of making a threat against a Chula Vista Catholic church and school was arrested Wednesday, Chula Vista Police said.Thomas Escajeda, 61, called St. Rose of Lima church and school at 293 H St. Tuesday. He threatened to harm parishioners attending a mass for All Saints Day on Thursday at 8 a.m., police said.A church representative called police, who arrested Escajada Wednesday on suspicion of Felony Criminal Threats. He is currently being held on 0,000 bail.Escajeda has been a regular participant of the church for a year, police said. Investigators said they did not know the motive for the threat.The All Saints Day mass is part of a solemn holy day for Catholic worshippers, dedicated to honor of the saints of the Church, according to Catholic.org.The mass and Thursday classes were canceled despite the arrest, police said. Church officials rescheduled the mass for next Tuesday, November 6, at 9:00 a.m.Security will be hired as a precaution in the near future, according to Jeff Saavedra of St. Rose of Lima.  1115

  

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - In August, Dean Riggott watched as his wife Karen fell off a Bird Scooter, her head crashing into the pavement. "It's been the most traumatic experience in my entire life," said Dean.Doctors initially told Dean that his wife likely wouldn't survive; she fractured her skull in 10 different places and was in a coma. "They were asking me to quite honestly start to get stuff in order, they didn't feel she would make it out of the first few days," remembers Dean.But each day, Karen continued to beat the odds. By day 32 she was out of the coma and began to show movement in her hands and feet. Weeks later, she was in rehab beginning to walk. "I didn't really know exactly what happened and I was in pain, I still am in pain, but I'm capable of moving, and my memory is good!" said Karen.After 69 days in the hospital and rehab, Karen was finally able to go home on Friday. "I'm the happiest man on this planet. I tell her every day thank you for being my wife, every day. I'm the most fortunate man in the world, I get to keep loving her," said Dean. Karen says each of her milestones gives her more hope and strength.She'll continue her recovery in rehab. 1195

  

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista police officer shot and killed a man who stabbed him several times in the face Tuesday night.Two officers got a call from a resident on Melrose Ave. who said a man threw a piece of concrete the size of a baseball at his head abouut 9 p.m.The officers determined the man was at a home on Monterey Ave. and went to the address at 10:25 p.m., police said.A woman opened the home's front door to the two officers.  The man began assaulting the first officer, police said, and they scuffled.Police tell 10News the man stabbed the officer up to half a dozen times in the head and face. The officer fired several times in self-defense, police said.At least one shot hit the man, who died on his way to the hospital.  CVPD identified him as 27-year-old David Scott.The second officer and the department chaplain, who was on a ridealong, were able to assist the injured officer. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. He did not require surgery and is expected to recover.City News Service contributed to this report. 1101
