SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego dentist is giving parents a new tool to win the battle over brushing.Dr. Kami Hoss recently released a singing toothbrush that pairs with augmented reality technology."We gotta come up with brushes that are really fun and educate in a fun way," says Dr. Hoss.The brush plays a song for two minutes, which is the amount of time dentists recommend for brushing teeth. While the song plays, kids can use an app to watch augmented reality characters come to life on their phones.The characters "pop out" of a sticker placed on the bathroom mirror and teach kids how to brush properly. Hoss says this is the first toothbrush to use AR."It's Pixar quality," says Dr. Hoss of the animation. "We spent years developing this to make sure it's beautiful."According to the CDC, around 20% of kindergarteners have some form of tooth decay. Studies show that children brush their teeth 73% longer when listening to music. The toothbrush also helps people know when it's time to buy a new one. If someone uses it to brush twice a day, the battery will die after three months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man is still recovering in the hospital after he says he was attacked, leaving him with a head injury and partial paralysis.Ricky Jackle says he was walking with a friend on Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest October 14.“I was out with a friend of mine. Had a few drinks at The Rail.” According to Jackle, that’s when the assault took place.“Last thing I remember, there was a confrontation between the person I was with and somebody else. I tried to get in the middle of it to stop in. I was pushed on my chest, went backwards and hit my head on the curb. Apparently that’s when I bled out. I heard voices, by friend’s voice behind me,” said Jackle.Jackle says after the incident, his friend fled the scene.In tears, Jackle describes how the assault has changed his life. “I can’t work, I can’t do the things I used to do. I’m scared.”“I don’t think anyone should be attacked or a victim like I was, I don’t think it’s right.”While under observation at the hospital, Jackle began to feel numbness in his hands and arms which resulted in loss of movement in his hands, arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe post.“The injury caused swelling which compressed his spinal cord resulting in loss of movment [sic] and some paralysis,” according to the post.Jackle’s cousin, Derrick Roach spoke about the friend who left Jackle following the attack. “He said the reason I left Ricky is with all the blood I thought he was dead. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new mother got a big surprise when she walked into her garage in Linda Vista: A ripped fence and a missing, pricey bike.Kristen Farias had just put her 3-month-old daughter in the car early Thursday evening when she noticed her garage door was open. She and her husband have lived at the City Scene condo complex for eight years."Felt violated. Something just didn't seem right," said Farias.That something was a hole in a fence that separates her garage from her neighbor's. All of her belongings were untouched, except for something expensive: a Cannondale R500 triathlon bike - loaded with accessories - valued at some ,000."You just feel icky. Someone knows how to get into your belongings and take your stuff," said Farias.In this case the 'how' included the neighbor's garage door accidentally left open. The thief got into that garage and cut open up the shared fence. Detectives told Farias of a rash of other incidents. "Four times in the same area in the past month," said Farias.In each of the cases, the burglar somehow broke into one garage, then went to work on the fence."Just means people are lurking in the neighborhood, following you and seeing when there is an opportunity. That's scary," said Farias.Farias says the thief knew exactly what he wanted, leaving behind less expensive items. Her big fear is what could happen when the thief strikes the next time. She can't help but think she and her baby could have walked in on the burglar."Makes me sick to my stomach. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A San Diego fire captain convicted of domestic violence was sentenced Wednesday.Steven Michaels received three years probation, 52 weeks of counseling and 180 days of custody which will be served in a county parole and alternative custody program, according to City News Service.Michaels, a veteran fire captain with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, pleaded guilty in 2017 to shoving his girlfriend against a wall and refusing to let her use a phone to call for help, CNS reported.RELATED: Veteran San Diego fire captain pleads guilty to domestic violence chargeMichaels filed a request to have the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor, but Judge Timothy Walsh denied the request citing a history of alcohol-related incidents of domestic violence.The felony conviction will likely cause Michaels to lose his job."He's taken away his career," said Walsh," if there is a career left. Four times!"When asked if Michaels was still employed by the department, Monica Munoz, a spokesperson for San Diego Fire-Rescue, only said, “we can’t give information about personnel issues.”10News has also requested comment from a spokesperson with SDFD's personnel department. Public records website, Transparent California, shows Michaels made 3,407 in 2016.The victim, Jane Doe, initially told investigators she feared for her safety, according to prosecutors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A lawsuit has now been filed surrounding the platform collapse that injured 21 children and some adults last November at Vault PK parkour gym inside a Barrio Logan warehouse.Two mothers and six children are represented in the complaint, filed against Vault PK and San Diego's Metropolitan Transportation System (MTS), among other defendants.MTS owned the warehouse and subleased the space to a business that subleased again to Vault PK. A few days after the collapse, MTS was hit with a dozen building code violations.Some of the families are suing MTS and Vault PK for negligence, among other complaints.MTS told 10News it won't comment on pending litigation.  713
