SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The first round of artists for San Diego’s Wonderfront music festival, supported by the star power of Tony Hawk, Trevor Hoffman, and Rob Machado, was announced Monday. The event will take place on seven stages in parks and on piers along the Port of San Diego, from South Embarcadero up to Broadway Pier. Wonderfront is scheduled for Nov. 22-24, 2019, the weekend before Thanksgiving. Wonderfront organizers plan to mix well-known stars with local favorites and emerging artists. “Our goal with this lineup was to have it stacked from start to finish each day with great artists. It’s hard to really call any certain bands our so-called headliners as so many lines of bands on this festival are all headliners in their own right,” said Wonderfront co-founder Paul Thornton. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Marine Corps reported an E.coli outbreak Tuesday among more than 300 troops at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.The diarrheal illness has affected 302 of approximately 5,500 recruits at the base. The cases had tapered off in the past week but a spike was reported Monday.Ten recruits were admitted to an off-base medical facility while the remainder are being cared for at MCRD. The source of the outbreak is under investigation, according to the Marine Corps."Our immediate focus is identifying, isolating and treating recruits who present symptoms," said Brig. Gen. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Federation of Teachers (CFT) is urging school districts across the state to roll back in-person classes and return to distance learning.CFT President Jeff Freitas said with most of the state back in the purple tier of restrictions, it only makes sense to go back to virtual learning until there is a slow in the spread of COVID-19.“We need to get these numbers down," said Freitas. “We think the best thing right now is for schools to stop their plans of reopening and, or if they are reopened, to close their schools and go back to remote.”Three Vista Unified School District schools -- Rancho Buena Vista High, Vista Magnet Middle, and Madison Middle -- returned to virtual learning Tuesday after positive COVID-19 cases were reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Temperatures are forecasted to climb in Southern California and surrounding areas through the next week and as this heat persists, there are other factors in play as well. Moisture entering the region will increase humidity, and humidity overnight will lead to overnight lows staying warmer, which means an extended period of heat with less overnight relief can be expected.This is a trend that is becoming more and more common. Climate researchers from Scripps Institution of Oceanography studied the history of these warmer, prolonged and humid stretches in the San Diego area, and found that periods similar to this are on the rise.“What we found is that heatwaves in Southern California, and I would say California more broadly, have been increasing over time in their frequency and tendency,” said researcher Dan Cayan.The lack of overnight cooling means no break from the heat at night, so the long stretch of days of increased temperatures combined with a lack of overnight relief could lead to dangerous conditions.“It’s a lot easier to contend with a heatwave that lasts a day or two than one that lasts four days,” said Cayan.Cayan said this is part of a larger picture of climate change impact, and this trend will likely continue in the years to come.Humidity can make temperatures feel worse.
