All three of them are Democrats because President-elect Joe Biden won his home state.“To be one of three that represents the Delaware voter that calls him their own is just huge,” Blunt-Carter said. “And then you look at the fact that the Vice president-elect is a woman of color - that is doubly amazing for me.”While she was selected by Delaware Democratic party officials to be an elector, in other states, you have to run for the privilege.“In our long history as a country, there have been very few people that have actually served in this role,” said Jonathan Fletcher, who is an elector from North Carolina.Fletcher ran to be an elector at the Republican State Convention, when it was held in North Carolina. He cast his vote for President Donald Trump, who carried the state.“It's kind of a lifelong dream,” he said. “I joke that it's a short lifelong dream – I'm only 28 – but it is a lifelong dream of mine.”The Electoral College and the popular vote don’t always match up. It’s happened five times in the country’s history, including twice in the 21st century, in 2000 and 2016. Some say that’s unfair and are calling for the Electoral College to be abolished.So, how do these electors feel about it?“It gives states like North Carolina, who are kind of middle of the pack in the electoral shuffle, it gives us a lot more equal standing with the rest of the country,” Fletcher said.Blunt-Carter said she sees why people would have some issues with the Electoral College.“I understand that people think that it is far past the time where we start to look at doing this differently,” she said. “But that's not the job of the elector. It's one way they've united in one voice to try to make a difference.  But some students are using art, and billboards, to send a message of their own.           For Yoki Ogbai, the overalls she's painting are more than a school project"Our colors are red and white," Ogbai said. "So a lot of wings a lot of bows glitter all types of crazy.The overalls are her latest work of art."Art for me is like a big sense of release," Ogbai said.Born in East Africa, she used art as expression when she moved to the U.S and a way for people to see her for who she is."A lot of times people don't really try to understand and don't really try to get to know a person before creating their onw ways," Ogbai said.  "Their own idea of who you are."So when she heard about a contest called the "Healing As One" campaign, she figured it would be an opportunity to inspire thousands to take a look at things in a different way."Cause he's kind of taking a picture and was like through the lens," Ogbai said.That idea grew into a billboard on a busy intersection that reads, "See Me, I Am Denver.""To be seen is to be acknowledged for everything you are and not for what you're expected to be," Ogbai says.Ogbai's billboard is just one of several in the Healing As One initiative. The topics are timely. One reads education not deportation. And others, encourage people to have courage and hope.Albany Reynolds designed the hope billboard."For me it's amazing because I've always been someone who wanted to speak out about issues like that," Reynolds said.  "And just bring attention to that."She placed the word over a picture she took of her classmate Kelly."It's giving us leeway to have artistic freedom and to put our ideas out there," Reynolds said. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Florida's coronavirus daily cases record was obliterated Sunday with 15,300, nearly 4,000 more than the previous high and 24 percent of the U.S. total, as daily tests soared to 142,981 but new deaths subsided to 45, the Florida Department of Health announced.The previous state record for cases was set one week ago Saturday with 11,458. Saturday's total was 10,360, which was the fourth time it hit five digits. Friday's total was 11,433 and last Sunday was 10,059.Florida also holds the record for most cases in one day in the United States. During the height of the pandemic, New York reached a peak of 12,274 cases in one day.Since the first two cases were announced four months ago on March 1, Florida's total has surged to more than 1 percent of the state's population to a total of 269,811.In one week, Florida's cases have risen by 69,700 for an increase of 34.8 percent. Last Sunday, total cases passed 200,000.Since the first two deaths were announced on March 6, the death toll has climbed to 4,242, which is ninth in the nation. The number of nonresident deaths listed by the state remained at 104 for a total death count of 4,346.Deaths rose by 511 in the state over seven days for 13.7 percent. The U.S. figure is 3.6 percent with the world at 6.4 percent.Testing has dramatically ramped up from just a few at select sites to massive places throughout Florida as well as nursing homes, jails and farm workers.
