"This is like a bad dream and I want to wake up," said Ivan Nares.Nares says he got a heart-stopping call from his brother Gustavo, 18, from the emergency room Wednesday morning."He said, 'Ivan, Ivan, I need you. His brother was a passenger in a Chrysler 300 packed with teens after a night at an indoor trampoline park.The CHP says around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, the car was headed south on State Route 905 going at a high rate of speed when it hit the center divide near the Beyer Boulevard off-ramp. The 21-year-old driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene.Three males and two females, ranging from 15- to 19-years-old, were rushed to hospitals. Among them was Nares' brother, who suffered a fractured pelvis and two broken legs. He is uninsured. Gustavo is an amateur boxer and a recent graduate of San Ysidro High. He was in the process of applying to college. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Health officials issued two new public health orders Monday addressing cruise ships arriving in San Diego during the coronavirus pandemic.The orders are meant to give the county more legal framework in how the Port of San Diego interacts with ships and the cruise industry, Dr. Eric McDonald, the county's medical director of epidemiology, said.RELATED: San Diego gyms ordered to close in new coronavirus health orderThe new orders include:"No passenger or employee may disembark a cruise ship in San Diego harbor without the approval of the health officer or designee if any person on the cruise ship has tested positive for COVID-19. Any cruise ship that is permitted to dock in San Diego harbor shall notify the health officer or designee regarding any emergency medical treatment required for passenger/employee and follow all directives from the health officer or designee.No cruise ship in San Diego harbor may dock or disembark employees or passengers after March 31, 2020. However, upon approval of the health officer, a cruise ship may dock solely for the purposes of receiving fuel and provisions, so long as no employee or passenger disembarks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For more than three hours, two women were trapped inside a downtown San Diego elevator.Fire crews were called to the Copley Symphony Hall at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after the elevator stopped as it took the women to the 34th floor.A Battalion Chief said the women felt a jolt and the elevator's lights flicker before it came to a stop.Rescuers were able to reach the women at about 11 p.m., more than three hours later. Until then, the women Facetimed a friend to stay calm, but a friend was worried they would run out of air or suffer from heat related injuries."Once I learned that they pried the doors open because it was so hot in there, what else could I do but just wait?" Kalani Creutzberg said. "It turned into a waiting game. And I'm just very very fortunate that there's a happy ending to this."Both women were taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Five dogs died during a fire at a former kennel in Lakeside early Sunday morning. The fire broke out on the 8700 block of Winter Gardens Boulevard around 3 a.m., according to the Lakeside Fire Protection District. The house used to be a functioning kennel, but the woman who lives in the home was either pet sitting or storing the animal for residents at the time of the fire, the district says. Crews say the fire started downstairs in the two-story home. The department says the age of the home made it difficult to fight the blaze. “Old structures are lath and plaster, they’re difficult to fight fires because the fires are get deep in the walls. So it takes a long time to put those out. There is a lot of stuff inside of the home as well. So moving hoselines inside of the house is very difficult as well,” according to Bernard Molloy with Lakeside Fire.
