Dick's Sporting Goods has destroyed million of the chain's gun inventory, its CEO said. After finding out that Dick's had sold the Parkland shooter a shotgun, CEO Edward Stack decided last year the company would no longer sell firearm to anyone under 21. Dick's announced it would destroy its inventory of weapons, rather than allow them to be sold by another retailer.Since then, about million of the chain's gun inventory has been turned into scrap metal, Stack said in an interview with CBS."All this about, you know, how we were anti-Second Amendment, you know, 'we don't believe in the Constitution,' and none of that could be further from the truth," he said in the interview. "We just didn't want to sell the assault-style weapons that could inflict that kind of damage."The shootingStack is a hunter and gun owner who believes strongly in the Second Amendment. The company, which his father started as a fish-and-tackle shop in 1948, has sold guns since long before Stack started working there in 1977.But the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, on February 14, 2018, changed that. Seventeen people were killed in the attack.Though the gun sold to the shooter was not the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting, Stack said he couldn't stand being part of the narrative of mass shootings."We had a pit in our stomach," he told CNN soon after the shooting. "We did everything by the book that we were supposed to do, from a legal standpoint, we followed everything we were supposed to do. And somehow this kid was still able to buy a gun from us."The decisionStack told CBS the controversial decision cost his company about a quarter of a billion dollars in revenue.Dick's is not the only national chain to be grappling with gun sales.Walmart announced in September that it would reduce its gun and ammunition sales significantly, also requesting that customers no longer open carry guns into their stores, even in states that allow open carry. 1997

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Dawn Bales and her 15-year-old daughter are already on the ground by the time the Facebook Live recording begins, the former frantically trying to shield her child from the barrage of kicks delivered by a ring of teenage attackers.“Hit the mom!” the teenager recording the scene calls to the others.Another seconds: "Hit her some!"They do. Someone laughs. Bales and her daughter scream. The assault, which happened Monday, left physical and emotional bruises on both. Bales said the group arrived at their home that afternoon hoping to settle a score from an earlier fight at Oyler School — a fight that had already resulted in her daughter’s expulsion. She didn’t know that when she answered the front door that afternoon. The two girls waiting on her porch asked if her daughter was home, she said; Bales told them yes and went to get her.“Are they here to start trouble?” she said she asked.“I don’t know who they are,” her daughter replied. When they walked to the front gate, however, she recognized one of them. Teenagers began to climb out of a pair of cars nearby, according to Bales. And then it was too late to escape.“I tried to cover her with my body, to get to my patio to try to get back inside,” Bales said. “They rushed us to make it over there. I saw her get snatched by the back of her hair and get thrown to the ground.”Mother and daughter were kicked and punched while one of the group stood at the bottom of their porch stairs and streamed the assault. Bales was terrified, she said. She had never experienced anything like it.“As a mother, all I wanted to do is protect her,” she said. “There was absolutely nothing I could do. If I got up she would've just gotten it worse."The attackers eventually left. Bales made sure her daughter had a place to stay out of town. Although she said she did not approve of her daughter fighting in school — “It wasn’t necessary.” — she was stunned and frightened by the scale of the other teens’ response. Looking back at the recording of the incident brings tears to her eyes.“We have to live here,” she said. “I have four small children that live in this house. I don’t know what’s to come. Will they retaliate when there’s charges brought on them?”Cincinnati police confirmed they were investigating the attack but no one had been arrested or charged. Bales said she plans to press charges of her own. 2389

Every traveler has their pet peeves, but crying babies are almost guaranteed to grate. Now Japan Airlines has revealed a new tool that lets you dodge infants when you book your seat."Passengers traveling with children between 8 days and 2 years old who select their seats on the JAL website will have a child icon displayed on their seats on the seat selection screen," reads the airline's website."This lets other passengers know a child may be sitting there."And one Twitter user praised the feature following a recent flight."Thank you, @JAL_Official_jp for warnings me about where babies plan to scream and yell during a 13 hour trip," wrote Rahat Ahmed."This really ought to be mandatory across the board."Before babyphobes get too excited, Japan Airlines cautions that the baby map will not display child icons in certain situations. It only works for bookings made through the JAL website, for example, and icons will not display if there is a change in aircraft. If you are taking a small child on your trip, JAL offers a number of services to make your experience better. The airline provides a number of strollers for rent in the airport, and will accept baby strollers as checked baggage for free.Passengers traveling with infants also enjoy priority boarding, and offers hot water for bottles as well as diaper changing facilities on board.CNN has contacted JAL for comment. 1394
