LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Dr. Greg Skomal and Meteorologist Joe Merchant are working together as they test a new theory on how sea breeze may correlate with set off a predatory chain reaction. So far their research has taken them to the Bahamas and Cape Cod, both locations on the East Coast, given several recent attacks. Skomal says, "It could be weather conditions it could be water temperature so were testing all these various factors to see if there's any patterns including Joe's ideas that drive the behavior of these sharks." Merchant believes a weather condition called a sea breeze may set off a predatory chain reaction. He says it brings nutrient rich deep water closer to the surface, attracting tiny marine life, which attracts larger fish and in turn attract the oceans largest predators, sharks. Fisheries Research Biologist Heidi Dewar tells 10News, "On the East Coast you have the warm Gulf Stream that moves broad on a continental shelf and our coast we have a cold current coming from the north and a very narrow continental shelf." For this reason, we may not be able to use the same theory for our coast."It's not clear that would translate to the West Coast; we have a very different ecosystem over here," Dewar tells 10News. Dewar says pinpointing sharks' locations and predicting where they will be next is going to require much more data and research. Meantime, she says one thing is certain: the number of sharks in the water is going up."We do know shark population in the North Pacific are increasing and so people will see more sharks in the water." 1588

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. -- Part of the popular RiverWatch restaurant on the Ohio River has vanished, and nobody seems quite sure where it went. The floating restaurant had a tiki bar attached on a separate barge. Authorities don't know if it sank or floated away. A boat normally docked at the restaurant was located downriver, but the tiki bar remained missing Sunday. The Ohio River did reach flood stage over the weekend."They can go back and reel back time and maybe figure out if anything hit, anything happened to force this to happen, because this tiki bar's been intact, I'm told, for 12 years," Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun said. The RiverWatch is a seasonal business, usually operating between April and October. The mayor said the owner still plans on opening as usual. 784

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The newest show at the La Jolla Playhouse is giving audiences a modern take on a classic tale."Fly," tells the story of Peter Pan, but it puts the focus squarely on Wendy, showing her journey from Lost Girl to a young woman."A lot of times we have your typical ingenue Wendy where a lot of the events of Neverland happen to her," explains actress Storm Lever, who plays Wendy. "In this one, you really get to watch her find her voice and find her power and own her voice and own her power."The actor says the show is perfect for its time, after the rise of the #MeToo movement, the women's march and other female empowerment platforms."Our thesis is that growing up is good," says Isabelle McCalla, who plays Tinkerbell. "It's good to grow up, it's good to grow old, and there's something really powerful about being a woman.""We need a woman that's going to take control of her circumstances and not be a victim of her circumstances," adds Lever. "We need to be teaching little girls that that's the way to conduct themselves."The show also packs some major star power. Lever was part of the Broadway-bound hit musical "SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical." Peter Pan actor Lincoln Clauss recently performed in "Bat out of Hell."Even the production team brings significant Broadway experience. Director Jeffery Seller, as well choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler worked on the hit show "Hamilton.""Fly" runs through March 29th. Tickets are available at lajollaplayhouse.org. 1504
