SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A suspect accused of stabbing a man multiple times in a San Diego airport parking lot was nabbed at the border this week.San Diego Harbor Police said Alberto Moreno Jauregui, 18, was arrested Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in connection with the stabbing that occurred on Oct. 28 in San Diego International Airport's economy parking lot.RELATED: Man stabbed while defending wife during attempted carjacking at San Diego International AirportPolice said Jauregui, armed with a knife, approached a man and woman in the process of loading their vehicle, before grabbing the woman around her neck and demanding the keys to the vehicle. The man intervened, leading to a fight.During the fight, Jauregui stabbed the man multiple times before fleeing the scene, police said.The man was brought to a nearby hospital and treated. The woman was not injured.Jauregui was booked into San Diego County Jail and charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, attempted carjacking and serious bodily injury.Jauregui is being held on no bail and is due in court on Nov. 9. 1112
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted following a brush fire that erupted in San Diego's Talmadge neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. The fire started after 1 p.m. on Fairmont Avenue and Aldine Drive near Central Elementary School. The fire could be seen burning up a canyon in the area as smoke billowed into nearby neighborhoods. At times, flames came within 200 feet of homes. Evacuations were briefly ordered for Norma Drive, Constance Drive and Natalie Drive. The Hoover High School football field had been set up as a temporary shelter.RELATED: Check today's forecastThe fire also knocked out power to thousands in the area, but electricity was restored around 5 p.m. The fire sparked amid elevated fire weather concerns. Gusty offshore winds are expected in the mountains and foothills through Wednesday with afternoon humidity between 15 and 25 percent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An emotional sentencing hearing was held downtown Tuesday for a driver behind a fatal Chollas View crash last March.In March, 36-year-old Jacqueline Castillo reportedly had drugs in her system when blew through an intersection in Chollas View, slamming her car into another car, killing 62-year-old Brenda Lee.“I want to put a face to that name. Brenda Doreen Lee was my sister,” said Lee’s brother, Ronnie Lee, as he held her framed photo up for the courtroom and Castillo to see. “You made choices to get loaded. You made choices to drive on a suspended licensed. You made a choice to drive erratically."The crash happened in the early afternoon by an elementary school. Castillo later pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter. “The horrifying images I saw will never be removed from my mind,” said Lee’s son, Myrell Johns. He fought off tears as he described how his family’s life has been destroyed. “I often think about my mother's terrifying thoughts that may have occurred moments before and after the impact of this person's vehicle plowing through my mother's driver side door." Judge Laura Halgren sentenced Castillo to six years in prison. “We're all human but I believe that every mistake doesn't deserve forgiveness,” Johns told the courtroom. 1284
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - All month long recreational vehicle owners staying at the Dreams for Change safe parking lot have been desperate to find a new place to stay. They were given 30-day notices to leave the site by the end of July. Dreams for Change leadership says it was always their intention to shift clients to the City's new safe parking lot, located near SDCCU stadium. However, the new safe parking lot has gone mostly unused. RV owners are required to move their vehicles during the day, which can be a barrier for some.CEO of Dreams for Change, Teresa Smith, says they've now come up with a temporary solution. RV owners will be allowed to leave their vehicles on the property, but they will have to go during the day.The nonprofit must balance serving their clients while also abiding by permitting and zoning rules. They are working to treat RVs the same way cars are treated in the program.Smith says the ultimate goal is to transition clients into permanent housing, who receive assistance from a caseworker. According to the Dreams for Change website, 2,650 people have been served through the program since 2009, and 65% of participants find housing or long-term transitional housing within three months of coming into contact with the nonprofit. 1268
