Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced that a citywide curfew will be extended through the weekend as unrest in the city reignited on Wednesday. The demonstrations were sparked by a grand jury announcement that charges would not be filed against the two officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor during a March raid. The curfew will continue from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. every day through Monday. The curfew does not apply to people commuting to work, house of worship for services or seeking medical attention for themselves or others. The city has also closed some of the city’s downtown government facilities through Monday morning. On Wednesday, 127 arrests were tied to demonstrations in the city. Amid the unrest, two Louisville Metro Police officers were wounded by a gunman. A suspect, Larynzo Johnson, was arrested on Wednesday. Johnson is accused of shooting the two officers who were patrolling demonstrations in the city. 936

Mental health experts are concerned that people who are unemployed amid the COVID-19 pandemic may be experiencing more mental health issues.Art Goldsmith, a professor of economics at Washinton and Lee University, says that some people who don't have a financial buffer — particularly minorities or people who have young kids — might become more emotionally distressed by losing their job.Unemployed people are normally optimistic at first. But after five or six weeks, feelings of hopelessness or anxiety increase."That's when I would say the psychological distress really arise, and poor emotional well-being starts to become a footprint of that bout of unemployment," Goldsmith siad.According to Maria Heidkamp, the director of the New Start Career Network at Rutgers University, that's concerning because the number of people who have been unemployed long-term has ballooned during the pandemic. She says that combing the stress of the health emergency with the pressure of being unemployed compounds an already difficult process."Your self-esteem can take a beating if you apply for jobs and get a series of rejections, and you don't know why. Or maybe you don't hear anything." Heidkamp said. "Even pre-pandemic, we know how stressful it is. "Heidkamp says that unemployed people should break up their job search and related goals into small, manageable steps. She suggests re-doing resumes or building an online presence in small chunks. She also suggests finding activities that reduce stress during unemployment and searching for part-time work while continuing to look for full-time employment.New Start Career Network is also partnering with the Mental Health Association of New Jersey to offer online health and wellness workshops. 1749

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Ruby Tuesday has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The casual dining chain says it's pursuing a comprehensive financial and operational restructuring aimed at reducing the company’s current debt and enhancing operations to continue to serve guests in the future. In a statement, Ruby Tuesday CEO Shawn Lederman said the restructuring will allow the business to reposition for long-term stability as it recovers from the unprecedented impact of COVID-19.The restaurant says it will continue serving guests as usual, with increased distancing, cleaning and sanitization protocols in place to ensure safety and peace of mind in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.“This announcement does not mean ‘Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday,’” wrote Lederman. The company also notes that Ruby Tuesday gift cards and “So Connected Rewards” will continue to be valid and retain their value through the bankruptcy process.“Our restructuring demonstrates a commitment to Ruby Tuesday’s future viability as we work to preserve thousands of team member jobs,” Lederman continued in his statement. “Our guests can be assured that during the Chapter 11 process, we will continue to deliver welcoming service and provide a safe environment for guests and team members, while serving fresh, signature products that only Ruby Tuesday can offer. LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Voters have rebuffed President Donald Trump and nominated two Republicans he opposed to House seats from North Carolina and Kentucky. In western North Carolina, GOP voters picked 24-year-old investor Madison Cawthorn over Trump-backed real estate agent Lynda Bennett. In Kentucky, Rep. Thomas Massie easily defeated his Republican challenger, Todd McMurtry. In March, when Massie held up the passage of a coronavirus stimulus bill by signaling he was a "no" on a key procedural vote, Trump called him a "grandstander" and called for his removal from the party.Calls in higher-profile races in Kentucky and New York face days of delay as officials count mail-in ballots. One of Tuesday's top races involves former Marine combat pilot Amy McGrath's fight for the Democratic nomination to challenge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this November. She faced a challenge from underdog progressive Democrat Charles Booker. The other involves House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel of New York, who is seeking a primary win over another progressive candidate, Jamaal Bowman. Engel is seeking a 17th House term. 1149

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Government officials in Kentucky say they'll be investigating the city of Louisville's handling of the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor. The Louisville Metro Council's government oversight committee announced its intentions Monday. News outlets report the Metro Council's next meeting is scheduled for July 23. Jean Porter, a spokeswoman for Mayor Greg Fischer, says the mayor welcomes the review. Protesters have been calling for the officers involved in Taylor's death to be charged. Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was killed in her Louisville home in March by police who were serving a no-knock warrant in a drug investigation. No drugs were found, and one of the officers was recently fired. 737
