SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New data by an environmental foundation shows Mission Valley is seeing a surge in homeless.A study by the San Diego River Park Foundation says the number of homeless living along the river has nearly doubled since last October.In October of 2016, volunteers counted 56 homeless encampments along the San Diego River and in October of this year, they tallied 101."The numbers really were surprising," said SDRPF President Rob Hutsel, "an 80% increase is really a lot."San Diego Police Department made 270 arrests in homeless-related crimes in September. Hutsel says the new wave of homeless is likely from the city's crackdowns.The SDRPF has compiled data on the homeless encampments' locations and even the trash they produce. "93.7% of the trash (here) is sourced to homelessness," said Hutsel pointing to the map on his phone.In Orange County, law enforcement has established curfews on certain banks along of the Santa Ana River where they are experiencing a similar issue with transients.Councilman Scott Sherman's office says the city performs sweeps of the riverbed and curfews are a possibility once the area becomes more developed. 1166

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 75,000 homes in San Diego are in areas that pose a "high" or "extreme" risk of wildfire, according to a new study by CoreLogic.That's the third most homes in the US, behind only Los Angeles and Riverside.In San Diego, the study found that it would cost .81 billion to rebuild all those homes.The news comes as San Diego, and California as a whole, are in the midst of a relatively tame wildfire season. According to Cal Fire, there have been 4,9267 wildfires so far this year. That's well below the pace of the last two years, when there were 7,571 fires in 2018 and 9,133 fires in 2017.Similarly, the amount of land burned by the fires is down in 2019. So far, 117,586 acres have been scorched. In 2018, the total number was 1,671,203 acres. In 2017, 1,240,606 acres were burned.Cal Fire says cooler temperatures and higher than normal humidity caused the number of wild fires to drop this year."When humidity is up, the fire doesn't burn as aggressively as it could if they were lower," says Cal Fire Captain Isaac Sanchez. "That's played a big factor for us this year."But, Sanchez warns that people shouldn't look at the low numbers and think the risk is also low. He says the next few months will have prime conditions for a devastating fire."We've seen the hottest days we're going to see, the temperatures have been warm, the humidity has been low," says Sanchez. "So the fuels that are in the hillsides right now are receptive to fires."Sanchez says people should remain fire-ready. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One driver was arrested after video of a road rage incident in Oceanside made its way into CHP's hands.Two drivers, one in a gray Ford Explorer and the other in a gray BMW convertible, were involved in the February 15 incident on eastbound State Route 78 in Oceanside, according to California Highway Patrol officers.Officers responded to a report of a non-injury, hit-and-run collision just before 4:30 p.m. near the College Blvd. exit. Officers arrived and found the Explorer on its side on the center median while the BMW reportedly fled.RELATED: Road Rage Crisis: Violence on the RiseWhile investigating, officers were made aware of a video recorded by a witness.The video showed the driver of the BMW, identified as 33-year-old Kevin McCall, left his vehicle to berate the driver of the Explorer, identified as 23-year-old Andrew Branch, who was still inside his vehicle, according to CHP.Officers said McCall spit at Branch before returning to his BMW. Branch is then seen driving into the center median and accelerating into the BMW, narrowly missing McCall.Sideswiping the BMW caused the Explorer to overturn onto its side. McCall then drove away, officers said."It was pretty shocking. It was pretty shocking," said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- President Donald Trump will be in San Diego Wednesday for a fundraiser. The details are sparse, but according to ABC News, the President will attend a “joint fundraising committee luncheon” on September 18 at an unknown location. The event follows several other fundraisers Trump is slated to attend this week, including several in Palo Alto, Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.
