CHANGCHUN, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Economic cooperation and investment among northeast Asia countries is accelerating, a senior trade official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Thursday in Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province."Northeast Asia has the advantages of modern technology, abundant natural resources and huge markets, which lays a solid foundation for common prosperity through cooperation," Koo Bon-Tai, vice trade minister of the DPRK, said at the Sixth Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo.Northeast Asia plays an important role promoting regional development, prosperity and security, said Xie Zhenhua, vice minister of China's National Development and Reform Commission.He added that the development of the Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) will become a new growth point for China and northeast Asia."All mining, communication and infrastructure projects approved by the Mongolian government are related to the development of northeast Asia," said Noroviin Altanhuyag, the first deputy prime minister of Mongolia.According to Chen Weigen, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, the sixth Northeast Asia Expo will showcase Changchun, Jilin and the Tumen River and attract domestic and overseas enterprises to join regional development and cooperation in the Tumen River area.The Expo began Thursday in Changchun, which attracted 50,000 businessmen from home and abroad, including those from 110 of the world's top 500 companies.

BRUSSELS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday urged European political and business leaders not to join the "chorus" on pressuring China on the appreciation of the Renminbi, or RMB.China's trade surplus was explained by the specific structures of the economies involved in international trade instead of the exchange rate of the RMB, Wen said at the Sixth China-EU Business Summit here."The (past) appreciations of the RMB did not lead to any changes in the trend (of China recording trade surplus)," Wen said, referring to the fact that China continued to record trade surpluses after it initiated an exchange rate reform in 1994 although the RMB has appreciated by an accumulated 55 percent since then. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao addresses the 6th China-European Union Business Summit in Brussels, capital of Belgium, Oct. 6, 2010.China also continued to record trade surpluses against the United States after it initiated a second exchange rate reform in 2005 to allow the RMB to appreciate 22 percent against the U.S. dollar since then, Wen said."The trade issue should not be politicized. BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said Tuesday Premier Wen Jiabao's Europe trip aims to promote the two sides' comprehensive strategic relationship.Fu made the remarks at a press briefing at which she and Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun briefed the press about Wen's upcoming visit to Europe.Wen will pay an official visit to Greece, Belgium, Italy and Turkey from Oct. 2 to 9 at the invitations of Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.Wen will attend the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit from Oct. 4 to 6 as guest of European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.The Greece visit is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years. During his stay, Wen will meet George Papandreou and discuss China-Greece relations. The two leaders will also witness the signing of several cooperation agreements. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece relations and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. We have noticed that the Greek government has adopted measures which have been effective. BEIJING, Sep. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Thursday it would urge industrial enterprises to produce high-quality products as part of the effort to enhance the image of "made in China."The Ministry would also draw up a blacklist displaying the names of those firms breaching quality-related regulations, said Li Yizhong, Minister of the MIIT.The MIIT would reward those companies that have good records for producing quality products with increased policy and funding support, and punish those with poor quality-control records, said Li at a forum held in Beijing which focused on how to improve the quality and reputation of Chinese industrial products.The MIIT would also move forward on a campaign to allow enterprises to make promises on producing quality products, and work together with quality supervision authorities to incorporate the quality-based credit system of enterprises into the whole social credit system, Li said.During the forum, 156 Chinese firms signed a written proposal "promising to make quality products for the world," and called upon their peers in China to raise the quality of industrial products.
