SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Teenage cancer survivors from Rady Chidlren's Hospital celebrated an "unforgettable" event.The annual Unforgettable Prom brought teens battling cancer out for a night of dancing and celebration — a night many of the teens miss at school while they continue to fight illness. Now in its 13th year, the dance has helped teens take a moment to celebrate that special night in every teenager's life. And everything is covered: From dresses and tuxedos to entertainment, food, and decor, thanks to volunteers and the Friends of Scott Foundation, a local non-profit that works to provide emotional and financial support for children with cancer and their families.This year's theme, Avengers "Age of Heroes," honors Ryan Wilcox, a former patient and Unforgettable Prom King, who lost hist battle with cancer. "Unforgettable Prom" was started by Carmen Delgadillo, founder of the Friends of Scott Foundation. Degadillo lost her teenage son, Scott, to Acute Lymphostic Leukemia. From that loss, Delgadillo started the foundation to help other families in need of support during their own battles with cancer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The City of San Diego could go to court to invalidate a landmark pension reform measure that voters overwhelmingly supported in 2012.The City Council is expected to meet in closed session the week June 10 to decide whether to ask a judge to throw out Measure B. The measure switched most new hires from pensions to 401(k) style retirement plans. More than 65 percent of San Diego voters supported Measure B in 2012. The problem, however, is that the measure got to the ballot via a citizens initiative, but then-Mayor Jerry Sanders campaigned on its behalf. Labor unions challenged the initiative in court, contending the mayor's involvement meant the city needed to meet and confer with them. The state Supreme Court agreed, and an appellate court ordered the city to make its employees whole, plus pay them 7 percent interest. The courts, however, did not invalidate Measure B, instead directing the city to work out a compromise with the unions. On Thursday, City Councilman Scott Sherman and former Councilman Carl DeMaio held a news conference pushing the city to protect Measure B."Right now we are being asked to go against what our bosses told us, and I don't think we should do that," Sherman said, adding that the city spends 0 million a year now meeting its minimum pension obligations. DeMaio said he would work with a coalition to go to court to protect Measure B. "I'm talking about putting the City of San Diego back on the brink of bankruptcy, let alone telling voters that they don't have a say on where their tax dollars go," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The attorney for Rebecca Zahau’s family spoke Friday about the San Diego County Sheriff Department’s new review of her death at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado.Earlier in the day, Sheriff Bill Gore announced that investigators found no evidence that she “died at the hands of another”. The department will not reopen the case.Zahau’s body was found hanging a the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado in 2011. Her wrists and feet were bound. For years, there has been speculation about the nature of her death, which was originally determined to be a suicide.Zahau family attorney Keith Greer suggested Friday afternoon that the Sheriff’s investigators are corrupt. “It’s not a logical decision. There’s something here that’s motivating these folks to do the wrong thing,” he told 10News. “I don’t know how they look at themselves in the mirror,” he added. Greer said that a rational person would not look at the evidence and believe that Zahau’s death was a suicide. The Zahau family lives in Missouri and did not want to be involved in Friday’s briefing at the Sheriff’s Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The former head of the Poway Unified School District appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing on five felony charges.Officials charged John Collins with misappropriating and misuse of public money.The complaint accuses Collins of misappropriation of public money dealing with vacation time and sick leave. Poway Unified fired Collins in 2017 after a scathing audit had alleged he received more than 0,000 in overpayments and unauthorized payments.The audit also claims there were an additional ,000 in other transactions that violated district policy and some questionable purchases for airline tickets, dinners and hotel fees.Collins attorney did not respond to 10News request for a comment, but in the past, Collins denied engaging in conduct that was dishonest.If convicted on all charges, Collins could face more than seven years behind bars. 894
