SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Ten years ago this week, the stock market hit bottom. The country was in a crisis and the glory days of flipping houses in San Diego were a thing of the past. Zuniga can walk into any home and see its potential. “You have to imagine the finished product in order to work through it,” adds Zuniga.Take the home he purchased in late November for example. It’s a 1974 single family home in San Carlos. The before and after photos are striking. Same with the bathrooms. Zuniga says the key is never cutting corners in the remodel. If you want to flip instead of flop, the investor must impress the buyer. And if you’re going to flip, that’s the other key. The house must move quickly. “We’re in the market of the moment, and we priced to sell,” says Lisa Becker. She’s also Zuniga’s agent and helps him find investment properties in San Diego. Together they only buy single-family homes in the mid-level range to reach a much larger pool of potential buyers. And, their method works. “So, this particular property, on the market less than a week, we had four offers,” says Becker.That’s right, four offers in less than a week. Flipping or not, time is of the essence for the seller. In November when Zuniga bought the house, Becker figured after renovations it could sell for 0,000. Fast forward to the end of February, with more homes on the market, suddenly the home is valued at 0,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The cities of Escondido and La Mesa are taking measures to help restaurants expand outdoor dining after a rollback of indoor dining in the county due to surging coronavirus cases.Starting Friday, Escondido will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction on Grand Avenue, between Maple Street and Juniper St., to allow restaurants to expand temporary outdoor seating. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Coronavirus Pandemic has had an unexpectedly positive effect on the Helen Woodward Animal Center, as pet adoptions have doubled over the past week."This is a fabulous time to bring animals into your home," says Jessica Gercke, the spokesperson for the HWAC.Gercke says the Center has seen a surge in people applying for adoption and fostering because they're working from home, and have more time to integrate a new pet into the family."We're seeing a lot of teachers and graduate students," says Gercke, noting that many had planned to wait until summer break, but moved up their adoptions because of the extra time at home.That's what led Anna Fairman, a Carlsbad Kindergarten teacher, to adopt last Thursday. She took home a new dog, Archie."I had had this plan that I was gonna adopt a dog at the beginning of this summer so that I could obviously have time to spend with the dog and train it," she says. "Now, just seemed like the perfect time."The HWAC is doing its part to keep the adoptions as safe as possible. They're only letting one person in at a time, with appointments set up in advance. Each person is allowed to interact with up to three animals to decide which one to take home.For fostering, the HWAC is doing video chat calls to inspect the homes of people wishing to foster and make sure they're safe and appropriate for the pets. They're also doing online training for potential foster families."We're seeing this beautiful, beautiful love that animals give to us," says Gercke. "It lowers blood pressure. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Thanks to everyone who gave, Month of a Million Meals surpassed four million meals raised. The meals will go to Feeding San Diego and couldn’t have been done without those who pledged their support. ABC10 and Live Well San Diego partnered with Feeding San Diego with the goal of raising enough money to buy a million meals. The fundraiser continued throughout December. Feeding San Diego serves 63,000 people every week, including children, seniors, military families and anyone facing hunger. One in eight people in San Diego County are food insecure and one in 6 kids in San Diego face hunger. In 2017, Feeding San Diego distributed 26 million meals. 681
