BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's central government pledged on Friday to support the northeastern region by boosting its development of modern agriculture.A guideline, mapped out by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture, was publicized by the General Office of the State Council, or cabinet, on the central government' s official website www.gov.cn.The guideline expects the region to harvest more than 100 million tonnes of grain annually by 2015.Northeastern China should catch up with developed countries in terms of land output rates and labor production rates, according to the guideline.The northeastern region in the guideline refers to Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and Chile celebrated the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties at a reception here Wednesday.Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong and visiting Chilean president Sebastian Pinera attended the reception, which was held by Chilean Embassy.China was ready to take the opportunity of this anniversary to push forward Sino-Chilean relations, Liu said when addressing the reception.Noting Chile was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic ties with China, Liu said the Chinese government attached great importance to developing the bilateral ties from strategic perspective.Pinera, on his first China visit since taking office as Chilean president in March, expressed the willingness to expand cooperation and friendship with China, and he hailed the progress made in bilateral cooperation since the two countries forged ties in 1970.Chile is China's second biggest trade partner in Latin America and China is Chile's biggest trade partner. Bilateral trade last year rose 2.1 percent to 17.72 billion dollars.China and Chile forged a comprehensive cooperative partnership in 2004.

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday voiced its support for a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Darfur issue, saying that efforts should be made to remove the root causes that resulted in such an issue.The statement came as Yang Tao, the counselor of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was taking the floor at an open Security Council meeting on Sudan."Currently, it is very important to maintain security and stability in Darfur," Yang said. "It is hoped that all parties to the Darfur conflict can solve their differences in a peaceful manner through political dialogue, and reconciliation should be achieved and violence avoided.""Achieving substantial result at an early date of the Darfur peace process and reaching a comprehensive political agreement represents a basic guarantee for the long-term peace and stability in Darfur," he said."Without a robust political process, there would be no peace and stability in Darfur, neither would there be the protection of civilians, humanitarian assistance, economic recovery and reconstruction," he said."We once again urged the armed groups which have not yet joined the Doha political process to do so immediately without any conditions," he said.As a mediator of the Darfur peace process, Doha has brokered several rounds of talks between Khartoum and rebel groups over the past years.The Chinese government has decided to make an additional donation of 500,000 U.S. dollars to the UN Trust Fund for the political process in Darfur, he said. GUANGZHOU, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China will increasingly promote the use of clean energy, since the country's energy needs are expected to increase by an equivalent of 2 billion tonnes of coal in the next decade, said Dai Yande, an official of the National Development and Reform Commission Tuesday during the 2010 Asia Energy Forum in Guangzhou City."China will use the lever of price to increase the demand for new energy," Dai said, "We will increase the share of non-fossil fuels in energy consumption to 15 percent by 2020.""We will increase the installed capacity of nuclear power to 80 million kilowatts and hydroelectric power to 400 million kilowatts by the end of 2020," Dai added.Further, China's major export hub Guangdong Province will invest 10 billion yuan (1.5 billion U. S. dollars) in green energy development in the next five years, said Li Chunhong, an official from the local government of Guangdong.By 2010, the capacity of nuclear power in Guangdong will reach 24 million kilowatts, and new energy will account for 30 percent of the total energy consumed, Li said.Opened on Dec. 13 in Guangzhou City, capitial of Guangdong Province in south China, the two-day forum provides a platform for experts and officials from around Asia to discuss regional cooperation in developing green energy.The first Asia Energy Forum was successfully held in Guangzhou in August 2009, and the forum is to be held annually in Guangzhou.
