(KGTV) - Neighbors say several aggressive coyotes are treating some South Bay parks as their hunting ground, attacking pets of all sizes.Along East Naples Street, surveillance video captured a hard-to-watch scene a few weeks ago in Patty Prescott's yard: a coyote toying with a feral kitten that Prescott was caring for."I ran out of the house. I started yelling, waving my arms. That's when the coyote dropped the kitten," said Prescott.Sadly, the kitten died. Prescott says coyote sightings have surged in the neighborhood, with more than six pets killed in the last month. Just to the south, at Max Field, home to little league fields, neighbors have been reporting several aggressive coyotes roaming the baseball fields and nearby Loma Verde Park since the start of the pandemic."Frightening. No fear of people. You make noise, and they take a step back and then stare you down. Now they're coming out earlier, throughout the day, any time throughout the day. They're searching and looking," said neighbor Rachel Morineau.Park goers say the coyotes are going after dogs of all sizes. In late May, cellphone video showed one of the coyotes leaping a park fence and attacking a large pit bull, before its owner chased it off.The coyotes' behavior has unnerved neighbors."I don't feel safe, even in my front yard," said Prescott.A group of neighbors has banned together, starting a Gofundme campaign to address the issue. Their concerns grabbed the attention of City Councilman Mike Diaz, who secured funding to trap the coyotes. Because state laws don't allow for them to be relocated, they will be euthanized."It's not something we wanted to do, but they are getting very aggressive, and it's the only option California gives us," said Morineau.Until they're trapped, Prescott plans to defend herself and her other cats."My son sent me a pellet gun, and I plan on using it for my protection," said Prescott.Councilman Diaz says the funding will also help form a long-term plan looking at the presence of coyotes in the city. 2055

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A carjacking and pursuit led to a deadly officer-involved shooting in Chula Vista Monday evening.According to Chula Vista police, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Rutgers Avenue.Police say the incident began when officers spotted a suspect wanted for attempted murder and observed him as he carjacked a blue pickup truck at gunpoint near Main Street and Maxwell Road.The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old David Angulo, was a documented gang member wanted in connection with three shootings in the area and was considered a danger to the community by police.According to police, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but instead the suspect led officers on a chase into eastern Chula Vista. On Rutgers Avenue at Otay Lakes Road, the pickup truck crashed into a vehicle with a person inside. That individual was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be serious.Following the crash, police say the suspect got out of the wreckage and tried to enter a house with a family inside. At some point, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers. "It appears Mr. Angulo turned back to the officers. It's my understanding he pointed a weapon at the officers," Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said. "It does appear some shots were fired at the officers and the officers returned fire."Peak added they're still investigating who fired the first shot.Chula Vista police say three officers fired their weapons, fatally injuring the suspect. Peak says medical aid was given to the suspect, but he died at the scene.The officers involved in the shooting haven't been identified at this time. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured masked burglars as they went shopping inside a Chula Vista home last Friday.When Gerard arrived last weekend at his parent's home off Procter Valley Road, he was greeted with ransacked rooms. "Stressed and anxious walking through the home," said Gerard, who asked us not to use his last name.Off the master bedroom, he found a shattered sliding door and broken shutters."Shocked and nervous, because I had to tell my parents who were out of the country that their home had been broken into, and no one wants to hear that news," said Gerard.A motion activated camera revealed the intruders: two masked burglars, one with a flashlight and the other with a backpack, going from room to room around 8:30 p.m. In a second clip, they are seen emerging from the family room before heading toward a bedroom. Missing from that room is about ,000 worth of his mother's jewelry, most of which she bought herself."Worked her whole life as a nurse. Invested her money and paid for it herself. It's a lifetime of work," said Gerard.Gerard believes the intruders were no amateurs. The masks, gloves and heavy clothing they wore helped preventing any hair and DNA evidence from being left behind."They look comfortable, the way they move. They are professionals. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man suspected of robbing a South Bay credit union was arrested following a crash Wednesday afternoon. According to Chula Vista Police, a man entered the Cal Coast Credit Union on the 300 block of East H Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the man approached the teller window with his hand in his pocket simulating a weapon and demanded cash from the employee. After receiving the cash, the suspect left the credit union, getting into a getaway vehicle. Police were able to locate suspect based on vehicle information provided by a customer at the credit union. Officers spotted the vehicle going eastbound on H Street and tried to pull the suspect over, but he didn’t stop instead leading police on a chase. At some point during the chase, police say the man ran a red light on Otay Lakes Road, slamming into another vehicle. Both the suspect and victim in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police haven’t yet released the name of the suspect but say he is under arrest for the bank robbery and felony evasion. 1100

States are beginning to roll out their plans, but timing is still very much in the air.For the last nine months, the check-out lines at grocery stores have not slowed.“We took one day off,” said Barbara Eastman, the owner of Happy Foods, a family-owned grocery store on Chicago’s northwest side. “We took off Easter Sunday. We closed the store and said everybody's got to take a break.”Essential workers like grocery store staff have worked tirelessly during the pandemic to keep the shelves stocked and Americans fed. In many cases, they’ve taken on great risks themselves.Grocery store worker John Wipperfurth came down with the coronavirus, despite taking every precaution.“I just took a little time off and came back a little more cautious afterwards,” he said. “But I was cautious before. That was the real scary part.”In fact, researchers at Harvard University recently found that supermarket workers who had direct contact with customers were about five times more likely to contract COVID-19 than their colleagues who didn’t interact with customers.It’s one reason experts like Lori Post says essential workers should be a priority following health care workers. Post is the director of the Buehler Center for Health Policy and she's an emergency medicine professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.“They can't work remotely. They must show up to work. They need to be vaccinated. They're high up on the priority list,” said Post.Right now, across the country, front-line healthcare workers and long-term care facilities are at the top of the list. But Post says groups like factory workers, correctional officers, inmates and disproportionately affected communities of color should be prioritized ahead of healthy adults.The exact timeline for when the general public could get vaccinated is difficult to pin down. Additional emergency approvals could accelerate a potential summer roll-out to healthy people. But even after the vaccine is widely available and a distribution plan is in place, it will likely take months more before restrictions are eased.“Best case scenario, next summer, middle of summer, end of summer, that we're going to be able to have enough vaccines,” said Post.And, for those who have worked hard to keep the economy going, like Barbara Eastman and her employees, they are still ready and waiting in line.“Most of us are looking forward to being vaccinated and being safe and being part of that group that's gonna make everybody safe.” 2622
