SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two San Diego police officers responding to a call for a shoplifter in Ocean Beach ended up buying the suspect clothes and shoes instead of arresting him.It happened on Jan. 6 around 5 a.m. at the location on Sunset Cliffs Blvd. SDPD officers Christian Nimmons and Dominic Collins said employees at the drugstore reported that a homeless man had come in, stolen a sweatshirt and refused to leave. The store declined to press charges but wanted the man out of the store. But knowing it was very cold outside, and seeing the man also didn't have a shirt or socks and shoes, the officers decided to buy them for him."We looked at each other, asked how much the sweatshirt was going to cost, and had the same mutual decision of giving him the sweatshirt," said Collins. Both men told 10News it was simply the right thing to do and part of their job as officers to show compassion for those they come in contact with."I think he was more shocked that cops were doing something for him," Nimmons said. "We couldn't leave him like that. That was really it. It's what we joined to do. To help people."The man, only known to the officers as Daniel, reportedly put on the items and left. 1201

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Want to make more money? Workforce analyst site Glassdoor is breaking down the highest paying jobs and where to find them. The survey was based on salary reports shared by employees with the jobs over the past year.Tech jobs make up 13 of the top salaried positions. There are also five health care jobs on the list.“The fact that employers are paying top dollar for many tech and health care jobs reinforces how demand for these valuable skillsets continues to outpace the supply of talent with these expertises,” said Glassdoor Economic Research Analyst Amanda Stansell. “We know that salary matters a lot to job seekers when determining where to work, but it should not be the only factor to consider. We’ve found that company culture and values, career opportunities and trust in senior leadership matter most when it comes to keeping employees satisfied in their jobs long-term.”The hottest high-paid job in San Diego? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There are numerous books written by Navy SEALs, most about combat. But a former SEAL from San Diego is turning the tables, writing a book about success in business called, “Taking Point: A Navy SEAL’s 10 Fail-Safe Principles For Leading Through Change.” In the book, author Brent Gleeson uses the principles of teamwork he learned in SEAL training and how that culture can lead to success for any growing company. These days you'll find Brent Gleeson in a blazer, on a stage, speaking all over the world to business leaders. But just a few years ago Gleeson’s attire of choice was desert camo, accessorized with the most high-tech equipment as a member of the world's most elite fighting force. However, before his time as a SEAL, Gleeson was in graduate school at SMU in Dallas, he worked in finance, and was an entrepreneur. The blending of those two lives led to this. His newly released book, “Taking Point.”     "It's not your typical SEAL book that gives you some leadership philosophies but actually teaches you how to successfully lead lasting change in any company or organization," said Gleeson. The book contains simple philosophies derived directly from his experience training for and on SEAL combat teams. Like surviving BUD/s training, something only 20 percent of candidates who enter the program ever finish to become Navy SEALs eventually. 1404

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When a significant wind gust led to an emergency response at SeaWorld’s Bayside Skyride Monday, San Diego Fire-Rescue technical rescue teams and San Diego Lifeguards were ready. The teams conduct training sessions at least twice a year on the ride, which has gondolas traveling through the air for a view above Mission Bay. Monday night at 7:30 p.m., five gondolas became stuck with 16 people on board, including a toddler. “She was a little cold, because I think she'd been up there for a little bit, so that was my priority,” said firefighter Sean Murphy. RELATED: 'Gust of significant wind' causes SeaWorld ride to stop, leaves 16 strandedSeaWorld said stranded park guests used blankets on board the gondolas to stay warm. The park also stayed in contact with guests through an intercom. Temperatures dipped temperatures dipped into the low 40s as crews launched a precision operation with ropes, harnesses and pulleys. “Our bread and butter is ropes and auto extraction,” said Murphy. Murphy showed 10News what was involved in lowering the 16 gondola passengers down to the ground. “Everyone had a little bit of jitters, but I tried to let everyone know exactly what we were going to do,” Murphy said. The toddler was put in a small harness. Murphy said it helped that the child's dad served time in the military. “He was pretty calm, composed, which was great relief for me, and allowed us to lower those two pretty easily,” said Murphy. It took roughly five hours to rescue everyone. No one was injured. The Bayside Skyride, which first opened in 1967, remained closed Tuesday during an inspection of the ride. 1644
