SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said.One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. "The SBA funding we received was a lifeline had we not received that funding we would have had to shut down operations and all the students that were here most of them would become homeless so thanks to these loans not only were we able to continue operations we’ve had two COVID graduations we’ve been able to put almost 100 graduates that I’ve been trained and certified in advanced manufacturing skills into the workforce and I am so thankful for their support," Hernán Luis y Prado, Founder and CEO of VetPowered and Workshops for Warriors.Carranza said negotiations for another round of PPP has been in negotiations for more than two months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Statewide DUI arrests and fatalities saw a significant increase over Christmas weekend. A total of 47 people died in DUI-related crashes in 2018 compared to 27 deaths over the same time period in 2017. DUI arrests also saw a significant rise. More than 1,100 people were arrested for DUI in 2018 compared to 917 in 2017. In San Diego County, three people died due to DUI-related crashes, tying with 2017. DUI arrests rose slightly from 56 to 57 in 2018. The reporting period for the arrests and deaths was Friday, December 21 through Tuesday, December 25. 584

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's next big attraction is on track to open later this spring.Construction on the park's Tidal Twister roller coaster is set to be completed in May of this year, the park said Wednesday. The roller coaster is being hailed as a first-of-its-kind coaster with a figure-8, horizontal design and dueling trains in which riders sit both backward and forward.Tidal Twister will take riders on a journey as if they're riding the tide, accelerating 30 miles an hour, twisting and banking on a figure-8 track, and crossing an opposite facing train in the middle of the attraction. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some quarantined cruise ship passengers at MCAS Miramar are voicing concerns after two days inside. Steven and Michele Smith were on board the Grand Princess cruise ship, which docked in Oakland Monday after more than 20 passengers tested positive for coronavirus. They were flown to San Diego Wednesday. Nearly 500 passengers are now being quarantined at the base. The Smiths are symptom free but frustrated. They've been in the same clothes since Monday. Their luggage is missing, after a possible mix-up with the baggage of passengers sent to other bases. The Smiths sent 10news photos of a laundry room they're not allowed to use and a lobby full of unclaimed luggage."Ours had a blue tie on it and none of those in the lobby have a blue tie. Somewhere the deck got shuffled and our luggage went wherever," said Steven Smith.They Smiths believe lack of resources and organization are also causing issues. They haven't been tested for coronavirus and have yet to receive a temperature check."Our friends being quarantined at the others bases are getting two temperature checks a day ...
