BERLIN, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- China and Germany will ink 8.7 billion U.S. dollars worth of business deals during Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Germany, Chinese Ambassador to Germany Wu Hongbo said here on Friday.Wu said at a press conference that Li was accompanied by some 120 Chinese business leaders on his current visit. The two sides are expected to sign 11 agreements and commercial contracts worth some 8.7 billion dollars, covering such fields as automobile purchase, financial cooperation, energy and machinery.Earlier on Friday, Li met with German President Christian Wulff and then held talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel.Li told the German leaders that China is a long-term and responsible player in European financial markets. BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's apparent consumption of crude steel is likely to reach 596 million tonnes this year, a year-on-year increase of 5.6 percent, according to a steel association official.Apparent consumption represents the sum of net imports and output, and can be used to estimate real consumption excluding inventory.Luo Bingsheng, deputy head of the China Iron and Steel Association, expected the country's crude steel output to climb 8.2 percent this year from one year earlier, to reach 624 million tonnes.Luo further noted that a rising investment in 2011 would result in an increase in China's steel demand.If the year-on-year growth of the country's social fixed assets investment maintained itself at around 20 percent next year, China's crude steel apparent consumption would see an annual increase of 40 million to 50 million tonnes next year, said Luo.

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese ministries and local governments have coordinated efforts to combat price hikes by increasing grain supplies, clamping down on speculation and offering subsidies, as the central government has growing concerns about rising inflation.In a move to head off price hikes, the State Administration of Grain will increase sales of grain supplies to meet the public's needs and stabilize market prices, the agency said in a statement posted on its website Friday.Additionally, it will sell a set amount of cooking vegetable oil and soybeans from government reserves beginning next week, in addition to the weekly sales of wheat, rice and corn that has already begun, the statement said.The authority will also send groups of staff to major grain production regions to inspect and guide purchases of autumn grain and regulate business practices, it added.The statement said the move was designed to protect farmers' interests and maintain moderate prices in the grain market.Further, the Ministry of Agriculture announced Friday that it will work to add 8 million mu (0.53 million hectares) of planting areas for vegetables and 2 million mu for potatoes to stabilize agricultural production and increase vegetable supplies during the winter.Also, Zhou Bohua, head of the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, said the administration will "seriously" work to prevent the hoarding of agricultural products, forcing up prices and other speculative practices.These measures echoed the central government's call to tame price rises.China's State Council, or the Cabinet, on Wednesday announced price control guidelines to reassure consumers facing rising inflation.The efforts mainly included imposing temporary price controls on important daily necessities and production materials when necessary, and urging local authorities to offer temporary subsidies to needy families.In addition, the government will work to ensure market supplies and strengthen market supervision.Local governments also unveiled specific measures intended to help people pressured by the higher cost of living. BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's central government on Friday declared new policies to encourage private funds, including overseas capital, to be channeled to the medical sector to meet the country's increasingly diversified demands on health care.The new policies, dubbed "guideline to encourage and lead social capital to sponsor health-care institutions" were posted on the central government's official website www.gov.cn.It clearly stipulated that social capital should enjoy preferential treatment when China is adjusting or increasing medical resources and social funds will be encouraged to participate in governmental restructuring of hospitals.Overseas investments are now welcomed to sponsor hospitals, while the procedures will be further simplified, according to the guideline.The general office of the State Council, or cabinet, required local governments to amend their documents accordingly and get rid of any policies that impede the development of non-governmental medical institutions.Also, the new policies encourage social funds to take part in governmental hospital reforms and convert some government-backed hospitals into non-governmental institutions to reduce the ratio of public hospitals, said an official with the medical and health care system reform office under the State Council.China will deepen the opening-up of medical institutions and turn the overseas-invested medical sector from the "limited (towards foreign investment)" category into a category that allows foreign investment, the official said.
