SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man whose car erupted into flames after crashing on the southbound I-805 Thursday morning is recovering after two passersby helped pull him to safety. Dashcam video from a nearby driver shows the moment the small white car suddenly veers to the right, slamming into a pick-up truck at Telegraph Canyon Road. Almost instantly smoke begins to rise from the hood, and then flames."When I saw the smoke we just ran over and saw we had to get him out. We unbuckled him out of the car, carried him out," said Tyrone Crawford. Crawford, a retired Customs and Border Protection officer and the friend he was with, a U.S. Marine, said they didn't hesitate to put their training into action. The two men were able to get the victim safely to the side of the highway, where first responders jumped in to start treating him. The man was alert and talking as he was wheeled into an ambulance.The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, but all lanes of the SB I-805 were reopened by early afternoon. 1037

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A heat advisory went into effect Saturday morning for a large swath of San Diego County as temperatures are expected to soar this weekend.According to the National Weather Service, the advisory started at 10 a.m. and lasts through 8 p.m. Sunday. The agency says temperatures in the San Diego County mountains are expected to reach up to 100 degrees.Further east, an excessive heat warning also went into effect at 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Monday for the San Diego County deserts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A person was hit and killed following a crash in San Diego late Saturday night. CHP says a driver lost control and crashed on SR-94 just west of I-805 around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. According to officers, the driver then got out of the car and started walking to an off-ramp when they were hit by another vehicle. The victim died at the scene, CHP says. The car that hit the victim fled the scene. At this time, it’s unclear if drugs or alcohol were factors in either crash. 506

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man accused of fatally stabbing his neighbor 33 times in Rancho Pe?asquitos last week pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.Police said Howard Forrest Lowe, 54, stabbed his neighbor, Richard Munsinger, 72, repeatedly in an unprovoked attack in Munsinger's garage in the 9500 block of High Park Lane.Following the attack, police said Lowe washed his hands and made a getaway on his bike before authorities caught up to him.RELATED: Police identify victim, suspect in deadly Rancho Pe?asquitos stabbingLowe faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
