BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- In the next five years, China will further expand the coverage of its basic medical insurance system and ease the cost of medical services, Health Minister Chen Zhu said Friday.Chen made the remarks while addressing a meeting for the reform of the health care system.The medical expenditure that shouldered by individuals had been cut to 38.2 percent of China's annual overall spending on medical services in 2009, down from 60 percent in 2001, thanks to increasing government funding support for the measure, said Chen.He said the country is striving to bring down the ratio to below 30 percent by the end of the country's 12th five-year plan period (2011-2015).China is steadily pushing towards the implementation of a basic medicine system which aims to ensure affordable access to essential drugs for patients, Chen said.In the areas already covered by basic medicine system, the average price of basic medicine has dropped by around 30 percent, Chen added.He said that the reform of government-run hospitals, which is key to ensure that the masses gain universal access to basic health care services, must be undertaken.In 2011, more measures will be made to restructure the distribution of public hospitals, reform government-run traditional Chinese medical institutions and support building and developing hospitals in county-level regions, Chen said.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Yahoo Inc. on Wednesday introduced a new feature to its search engine, which the company said can deliver answers and direct access to websites before users complete their query or hit the search button.The new feature, called Search Direct, predicts search results as fast as a person types and presents those results dynamically, Yahoo said."With today's launch, direct answers -- not the search results page -- is the primary focus. We are redefining the search process and prominently displaying direct answers where search decisions are being made," Shashi Seth, Yahoo's senior vice president of search and marketplaces, said in a statement."Search Direct is evidence of Yahoo continuing to lead innovation in search, enabling people to take action faster, find what is most important, and sample what is possible with the next stage of search technology," he added.Yahoo announced that Search Direct is rolling out in a public test version to its users across the United States Wednesday, and will be available in other Yahoo products and markets later this year.

WASHINGTON, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. astronauts conducted the first of four spacewalks for space shuttle Endeavour's STS-134 mission on Friday morning, the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said.According to the U.S. space agency, Endeavour's mission specialists Andrew Feustel and Greg Chamitoff completed the six-hour, 19-minute spacewalk at 9:29 a.m. EDT (1329 GMT). They successfully installed antennas for the External Wireless Communication system, routing cables, setting up the antenna, installing handrails, and connecting power cables.Because of a carbon dioxide sensor failure in Chamitoff's spacesuit, flight controllers limited his spacewalk time to about six hours 20 minutes, 10 minutes less than the planned six hours and 30 minutes. There was no indication his suit's carbon dioxide levels would rise. However, they deferred tasks to remove a micrometeoroid debris shield to access and attach some of the connection points.This was the 245th spacewalk conducted by U.S. astronauts. It was Feustel's fourth spacewalk for a total time of 27 hours and 17 minutes, and Chamitoff's first.Endeavour lifted off on Monday morning from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, to deliver to the International Space Station a 2-billion-dollar, multinational particle detector known as the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS).AMS, a particle physics detector, is designed to search for various types of unusual matter by measuring cosmic rays. BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 9,300 kidnapped children in China have been rescued since April 2009 since a nationwide campaign was launched to crack down on human trafficking, according to the Ministry of Public Security Thursday.In a statement, the ministry encouraged the involvement of civilians in providing clues to help the police rescue minors -- especially those being abused and forced to beg on the streets.In less than three weeks, a Chinese microblog called "Street Photos to Rescue Child Beggars" attracted 175,000 followers and posted more than 2,500 images of begging children online for parents to identify.The blog was set up last month by a professor with the Rural Development Institute of the Beijing-based China Academy of Social Sciences. It has helped rescue six children so far.However, the ministry noted in the statement that children kidnapped to become beggars took up only a small portion of all cases of child beggars. In most cases, children were taken to beg along with their parents or relatives.The ministry has urged police authorities across the country to closely cooperate with civil affairs, urban management and health departments in apprehending people who force children to become beggars.
