Recalling that visit, Om told Xinhua they were excited to be on the once-familiar stage in China.     The DPRK people paid great attention to the visit, said Om, adding DPRK attached great importance to developing cultural cooperation with China. BEIJING, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 45 million people from both home and abroad have visited Tian'anmen Rostrum, a landmark structure in the heart of Chinese capital, in the past 21 years after it was opened to the public.     "In 2009 alone, the rostrum received more than 2.16 million visitors," said Lin Bingkui, of the rostrum administration department.     The rostrum, or the Gate of Heavenly Peace built in 1417, stands to the north of Tian'anmen Square and south of the renowned Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).     It was on the Tian'anmen Rostrum where Chairman Mao Zedong formally proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1, 1949.     The rostrum was opened to the public for the first time on Jan.1, 1988.     Thousands of tourists use the rostrum as a background while taking photos every day.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chief of General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Chen Bingde called on Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and military officials on Friday.     During his meeting with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean, Chen said that China and Singapore share common strategic interests in economic development and regional security. In recent years, bilateral military relations have made great progress, he said, adding that the two sides have maintained frequent high level visits and improved the communication and cooperation mechanism. SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting U.S. President Barack Obama said here Monday that Shanghai and Chicago can learn from each other especially on clean energy.     He made the remarks during a dialogue with Chinese students at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. It is his first trip to China since taking office in January.     "It's a terrific opportunity for us to learn from each other," he said.     "In the United States we are learning how to develop buildings that use much less energy and that are much more energy-efficient. I noticed in Shanghai many new buildings are growing up. It's important to incorporate these new technologies so that each building is energy-efficient when it comes to lighting, when it comes to heating," he said.     Clean energy issue is going to be a major focus in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, he said.     Shanghai and Chicago have been sister cities since 1985.
