Almost two dozen people became trapped when a storm knocked over a large tree onto a detached garage, which collapsed. The victims were attending a child's birthday party, and had gone inside the garage when the storm started, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department."It literally sounded like a train coming down the tracks and I looked out the front door and I could see a funnel," said neighbor Dawn Redloff.Redloff describes the severe and sudden storm that hit her neighborhood in Pasadena Sunday afternoon, near Baltimore. Winds knocked down trees, power lines and blew out her front door and window.But nothing was as bad as her neighbor's home."It was heartbreaking," said Redloff.The Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials said a large tree fell on a detached garage during a child’s birthday party, injuring 19 and requiring major rescues."The guys were unreal, cutting the building apart, getting people out of there," said Redloff.When crews arrived, they found six people still trapped inside, all were removed within 45 minutes.According to the county, 19 adults and two children were injured and taken to four area hospitals. (KGTV) -- A local animal sanctuary is mourning the loss of Shadow the leopard.Shadow first came to Lions Tigers & Bears in Alpine four years ago after being rescued from a defunct animal sanctuary in South Dakota.Unfortunately, Shadow was plagued with health issues, including skin disease and leaky heart valves.The leopard’s health continued to deteriorate this year, and Lions Tigers & Bears officials decided to put Shadow down this weekend.Shadow is the second big cat the Alpine sanctuary has lost in two weeks; on Oct. 26, a tiger killed another when they were accidentally brought into close contact with one another. 656

ALPINE, Calif (KGTV) - An East County woman is recounting the "breathless" moment after she looked in her truck engine and saw a very large rattlesnake.In the backyard of a home along Foss Road sits a 1978 Chevy half-ton truck, Jules Piatek's first-ever vehicle. "I love my truck. I don't want that snake anywhere near me. He arrived and used snake tongs to remove it from the engine."It was shady, just in there just hanging out," said Minga.Minga says it was a Southern Pacific, the most common local rattlesnake and about 4-feet long. It's hardly the first oversized rattler of the season. Minga just caught another one a few homes down.A few days ago, 10News reported on the discovery of a 6-foot-long Red Diamond rattler that surprised a woman and her little dog in a Santee backyard.Minga says the giant sizes mean despite the lack of rain this winter, food remains aplenty and the snakes should continue to be an active snake season.
