PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly. He stressed that China will hold more dialogues and communications with France to enhance political mutual trust and boost the Sino- French economic cooperation.Earlier on the day, Wu held talks with French Senate President Gerard Larcher. BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's insurers felt the side effect of the country's booming auto market -- with operating losses totaling 2.9 billion yuan (427 million U.S. dollars) in 2009.Insurance Association of China said here Friday that its 30 member insurance companies that are engaged in traffic compulsory insurance business underwrote 85.02 million units of vehicles in 2009, up 23 percent from a year ago.Total compulsory insurance premiums rose 21 percent year on year to 66.8 billion yuan (9.84 billion U.S. dollars), according to the association.Meanwhile, the industry handled 11.78 million claims regarding traffic liability mandatory insurance products last year with reimbursements totaling 47.2 billion yuan (6.95 billion U.S. dollars), it said.Offsetting 2.4 billion yuan (353 million U.S. dollars) investment revenue with 18.6-billion-yuan (2.74 billion U.S. dollars) operating costs, the industry posted a loss of 2.9 billion yuan (427 million U.S. dollars) last year, according to the association.Retail sales of China-made autos rose 17.18 percent year on year to 1.056 million units in July this year, raising auto sales in the first seven months to more than 8.24 million units, up 28.58 percent from a year earlier, according to data from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center released earlier this month.

BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's domestic corn supply was adequate, and a recent price increase was the result of market speculation, a senior official told Xinhua Thursday.Shang Qiangmin, director at the China National Grain and Oils Information Center, said both the supply and corn reserves were adequate in China and the government was determined to regulate the corn market."Imbalance between corn supply and demand is a misjudgement," Shang said.Although floods that ravaged the country's northeastern regions in late July have caused adverse impacts on regional corn growing, final output was expected to increase from one year earlier due to the expanding of planting areas, Shang said."China has enough corn reserves to meet market demand," he said.The buying boom in the northeastern region is currently caused by enterprises' increasing corn stocks on speculation of price increase, he said.According to Shang, corn stocks at major grain enterprises in northeastern Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang provinces, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, increased by 5.12 million tonnes at the end of July compared with one year earlier.The Chinese government has strengthened macro control of corn market by increasing supply and cracking down on illegal activities that force up corn prices.As the world's major corn producer and consumer, China's annual corn production and consumption both exceed 150 million tonnes.

MOSCOW, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Mayors of Beijing and Moscow signed here Thursday cooperative plan between the two cities for 2010- 2012.Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov introduced the municipal administration, city plan and economic development to his Beijing counterpart Guo Jinlong, who led a delegation for a visit to Russia starting from June 20.Based on the cooperative plan, official delegations will engage in mutual visits during the three years, as well as exchanges between experts on energy efficiency, security, telecommunications, mass media and management.The plan said both sides would expand cooperation and provide support for each other on promoting economy, city plan and technologies.The two cities would also further develop collaboration and contact in education, social security, environment protection, heritage conservation, culture, sanitation, sports, city infrastructure, among other things.Beijing municipal government also donated two buses with green energy to Moscow.
