First Lady Melania Trump announced Monday that the new tennis court pavilion at the White House is completed, just six weeks before President-elect Joe Biden is expected to be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.According to a White House press release, the project included renovating the existing tennis court and children's garden, as well as building the new pavilion, which was both "planned to blend with the existing structures on the White House grounds."The new building's design was inspired by the White House's existing architectural style, especially the East and West Wings, the first lady's office said."The colonnade, parapet wall, and fanlight windows tie the new building to the existing look and feel of the White House," the press release stated."I am pleased to announce the completion of the Tennis Pavilion on the White House grounds. Thank you to all of the talented craftsmen who made this project possible and to the generous supporters of the White House," said First Lady Melania Trump. "It is my hope that this private space will function as both a place of leisure and gathering for future First Families."Planning for the renovation began in early 2018. The Commission of Fine Arts and the National Capital Planning Commission approved the project in June 2019. Construction began that October. The White House says the project was paid for with private donations and did not disclose the cost. 1449

Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sent mixed messages when she said she did not want to run for president again, but after hesitating she added that she would like to be president someday. When asked by tech magazine Recode's Kara Swisher at a taping Friday of the Recode Decode podcast whether she wanted to run for president again, Clinton said, "No, no."But after a pause and some prodding from Swisher, Clinton said, "Well, I'd like to be president.""I think, hopefully, when we have a Democrat in the Oval Office in January of 2021, there's going to be so much work to be done," she elaborated, later adding, "The work would be work that I feel very well prepared for, having been at the Senate for eight years, having been a diplomat in the State Department, and it's just going to be a lot of heavy lifting."When Swisher asked whether Clinton would be doing that heavy lifting, Clinton replied, "Oh, I have no idea. ... I'm not even going to even think about it till we get through this November 6 election about what's going to happen after that."Swisher tweeted Monday morning that Clinton seemed to mean she would have preferred to win the presidency in 2016, not that she planned to pursue it again."Tweeps, simmer down!" Swisher tweeted. "While it perhaps sounded like @HillaryClinton refused to rule it out, my take is she was basically implying she wishes she were president but doesn't relish running again." 1468

Feeling lucky? Employees of United Airlines weren't.On Monday, United quickly shelved plans to replace quarterly employee bonuses with a 0,000 lottery prize, after a stinging backlash from its workforce. The lottery, which the airline announced on Friday, would have paid 0,000 to one lucky employee selected at random, and smaller bonuses of ,000 or ,000 to about 1,300 more. Other employees would have gotten prizes including 50 vacation packages or 10 Mercedes. The overwhelming majority of United's 90,000 workers would have lost bonuses that paid up to ,500 over the course of the year."Our intention was to introduce a better, more exciting program, but we misjudged how these changes would be received by many of you," said Scott Kirby, president of United Continental, the holding company for the airline, in an email to employees. "We are pressing the pause button," he wrote.Experts on compensation and workplace culture said they had never heard of a company of United's size and stature trying this kind of lottery program."I really thought it was a joke when I first heard of it," said Tom Gimbel, founder and CEO of LaSalle Network, a national staffing and recruiting firm. "It's very amateurish."The backlash and reversal comes while United is negotiating a new union contract with its pilots. The union wasn't happy with the lottery."This just puts a bad taste in our mouths," said Roger Phillips, a United pilot and spokesman for the pilots union at the airline. 1497

For years Rachel and Greg Osterland have decorated their Wadsworth to look just like a famous one— the Griswold’s house from "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation." The home has become a must-see for families across Northeast Ohio during the holiday season. On Friday, the family held the official lighting of the home. Typically, the family hosts a crowd of spectators but this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was virtual. The Osterlands lit their home just before 7 p.m. Watch video from the event in the player below: 549

For these 3,000 teens, there's no such thing as going back to normal. On Wednesday, they'll return to the same school where 17 of their classmates and teachers were gunned down. But instead of math and history lessons, their minds will be occupied by the trauma of gunfire and grief."I don't think I'll ever recover from this," said Daniel Bishop, a sophomore at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. "How am I supposed to (go back to) a place where 17 of my peers were slaughtered?"  496
