LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) — A proposed mixed-use housing complex could put living in one of San Diego's most expensive areas within reach. It's part of a plan to redevelop the former 76 gas station at Pearl Street and Eads Avenue in downtown La Jolla, a station infamous for charging among the highest gas prices in the city. The station has been closed for about the last two years."It's a blighted area on Pearl," said developer David Bourne. "It needs to be developed, and I think this is the highest and best use."Bourne is proposing to turn the former station into a mixed-use development that could serve as an example of future transit-oriented projects. The least expensive units will start from ,800 to ,000 a month, with the two bedrooms up to ,800. Plus, two affordable units will rent starting at 5 per month, well below La Jolla's average rent of ,545. "It is intended to showcase the way people are living now," Bourne said. "Smaller units, smaller appliances, in an urban area where you can walk everywhere and you probably don't even have a car."The complex would also include 23 parking spaces. Just weeks ahead of the midterm elections, U.S. election databases are coming under attack.A new report finds election hacking attempts have been building since April. One troubling note: the government does not know who is behind the attacks.“Well, it is worrisome. The more we know, the better,” says John Fortier, with the Bipartisan Policy Center. “But I also do think, in the world that we have, we are going to have unknown actors, whether foreign or domestic, making attempts to get into systems.”The good news is that, so far, Homeland Security says none of the attacks have been successful.Fortier thinks that's a sign of enhanced election security and better communication between election officials.“I think we are in a better place now to identify those threats and communicate those threats between federal and local and state election officials, and I think that's a step up,” Fortier says.As the midterms approach, the head of Homeland Security says the government will also be using other security tools, including sensors that allow federal officials to see inside state computer systems in order to detect if there are signs of hacking attempts.“Our network security sensors will cover 90 percent of registered voters,” says Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen. “And on election day, we'll be in full force and hosting a virtual nationwide situation room to assist our partners.Experts continue to insist that voter databases, like registration information, is more at risk than hackers being able to change actual votes. 1559

(KGTV) -- Audio captured inside a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida reveals the moments a mass shooting took place. Throughout what was a live stream, shots can be heard ringing out inside the facility where the event, known as the Madden 19 Tournament, was taking place. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirmed Sunday afternoon that several people are dead, including one shooter. Kicker Landon White left the Eastern Kentucky University football team while taking a big shot at the program on his way out of the locker room.The Madison Central grad grew disgusted with what he said have been poor, or even nonexistent, safety measures as it relates to the team and its handling of player safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.White claimed in an Instagram post that no one on the team has been tested since July 6. Jordana Judson lives in New York. But when she heard about the Florida school shooting last week, it hit close to home.Judson, 23, graduated from Florida State University, which had a school shooting a few years ago. She also is a 2012 graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 students and faculty were killed last Wednesday.Her family friend Meadow Pollack was among them. After she heard the news, all Judson wanted to do was go home to South Florida and be with her family."Everyone (in the community) knows somebody involved somehow," she said. Pollack, 18, was the sister of Judson's brother's best friend, and Pollack's dad has been a father figure to Judson's family.
