Authorities in Texas say a partially-dressed woman who was captured on a home surveillance system ringing a doorbell early one morning is safe after officials discovered her boyfriend died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.According to ABC News, five days after the 32-year-old woman was recorded on a Ring doorbell’s surveillance camera, the woman was located and is reportedly safe, police said.The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday they responded to a home in the Sunrise Ranch subdivision after receiving reports of a 49-year-old man threatening to kill himself.Deputies attempted to knock on the door multiple times before making forced entry into the home, officials said. When they made their way inside, they discovered the man lying dead of a single gunshot wound.Authorities tell local news outlets they believe his death is a suicide.The man left a note and mentioned his girlfriend but police say she was not at the scene by the time officers arrived. The woman was later identified as the person ringing a stranger's doorbell early in the morning.Last Friday, the woman was seen ringing a doorbell in the neighborhood north of Houston around 3:20 a.m., the MCSO said. The woman left the home before the resident answered the door.The eerie video of the woman was widely shared on the Internet as people on social media feared the woman — who was seen only wearing a T-shirt and broken hand restraints — was in danger. Authorities aren’t releasing any information about the woman because she is a victim of domestic violence. Astronauts on board a Soyuz rocket heading to the International Space Station survived an emergency landing following a booster failure, a Russian space official said Thursday."The crew landed," Dmitry Rogozin, director of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, said on Twitter. "All are alive."The rocket was transporting NASA astronaut Nick Hague and cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin of Roscosmos for a six-month stay on the ISS.NASA said its support teams had reached the location where the crew touched down."The search and rescue teams have reached the Soyuz spacecraft landing site and report that the two crew members are in good condition and are out of the capsule," NASA tweeted.The pair will be taken to the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, outside the Russian capital, Moscow, NASA said.  818

At a time when people across the country are calling to defund the police, or outright abolish them, convincing others to make a career in law enforcement could be a tough sell.For Cameron Mosher, however, the decision to put on the badge for a living is an easy one.“For me, it’s always been an urge to serve my community,” he said.Mosher is training to be a deputy sheriff at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy in Southern California.“I want to try to be that positive change in law enforcement to try to help and move forward with this career,” he said.Moving forward and maintaining order as the country deals with a pandemic and social unrest.“I have a brother in St. Louis, Missouri, not too far from Ferguson, and we’ve had some interesting debates over the last five or so years,” said Lt. Joses Walehwa, who is helping train a new group of recruits at the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy.Walehwa says his team is preparing the next generation of law enforcement officer for much more than traffic stops and arrests.“As an African American, or really any minority group here in America, has a unique perspective when it comes to just their lived experience growing up,” he said. “I think for me, the biggest impact is bridging the gap. You know, bridging this issue of us versus them.”Walehwa says another huge impact when it comes to recruiting is the economy.“When the economy starts to dip, you see that people start to look for stable jobs,” he said. “Law enforcement and public sector and jobs like ours become a little bit more appealing because people see the stability of the job.”A job where despite a pension and a mean annual wage of more ,600 (Bureau of Labor Statistics), there’s still a major need for more sheriff’s deputies across the country.A recent report from the Police Executive Research Forum shows 36% of respondents said the number of applicants at their agency has “decreased significantly.”For recruits like Mosher, however, working in law enforcement means much more than money. It’s about building trust in his community while also addressing new challenges and raising the standards of law enforcement officers.“We see definitely a lot of people who are not necessarily supportive of law enforcement right now,” he said. “But in the end, that’s totally OK, because we’re here to support everyone.
