BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang urged the boosting of efforts to prevent and control the hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) nationwide as the illness re-emerges in parts of the country."Spring and summer is a peak period for infectious diseases. Currently, preventing and controlling various infectious diseases such as the hand-foot-mouth disease is a key task," Li said Wednesday at a meeting on a nationwide health campaign.At least five children died of HFMD and another 9,863 cases have been reported in central China's Henan Province as of March 23. The local government has asked kindergartens and schools across the province to step up health checks of children.Li urged the acceleration of research into vaccines and drugs for the disease and a focus on prevention and control work in rural areas for the most vulnerable groups.HFMD is a common illness mainly affecting children under the age of 10. It usually starts with a slight fever which is followed by blisters and ulcers in the mouth and rashes on the hands and feet. BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Beijing police have refuted a rumor that a school attack occurred Thursday morning at a primary school in the city.An Internet post said an attack was carried out at Xiwang Primary School at around 9 a.m. in Sibozi of Beijing's Changping District and the police evacuated all the students on campus."There is no such school in Sibozi. And we never received a report of a school attack," said a spokesman with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Thursday afternoon.The police have launched an investigation into the source of the rumor, said the spokesman.The rumor came after a series of recent school attacks in China's Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces.

HAIKOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's fishery administration said on Sunday it had started regular patrols of the South China Sea, sending two vessels to take over from two others currently escorting Chinese fishing boats in the area."China Yuzheng 301 and 302 take over from China Yuzheng 311 and 202, which have been patrolling the sea area of Nansha Islands since April 1," said Wu Zhuang, director of Administration of Fishery and Fishing Harbor Supervision for South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture.He said the patrol ships were sent to escort Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea and reinforce China's fishing rights of the waters around Nansha Islands.The two ships set sail from Sanya, a coastal city in China's Southernmost Island Province of Hainan, on Sunday.China's patrol vessels escort the country's fishing boats and help treat fishermen who fall ill, Wu said.
