SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A United Airlines flight scheduled to take off from San Diego International Airport was diverted from the runway just before departure Friday due to an undisclosed mechanical issue with one of the plane's engines.Flight 478 was scheduled to take off for Denver shortly before noon, but was recalled while on the airport's taxiway. The plane was safely escorted back to the airport's terminal and the issue occurred at low speed, according to United.``The aircraft safely returned to the gate and customers deplaned normally,'' a United spokesperson said in a statement. ``We are making arrangements to get our customers to their final destination as soon as possible.''Roughly 120 passengers were aboard the flight. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County environmental health officials issued a water contact closure Friday along the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park due to sewage-contaminated water. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued the closure Friday afternoon following rainfall this week that caused contaminated water in the Tijuana River to flow into U.S. waterways. County officials regularly issue beach closures after rainstorms due to contaminated flows from the river. The closure extends along the shoreline from the U.S.-Mexico border to the southern end of Seacoast Drive. County officials have placed water contact closure signs to alert beachgoers of the water's contamination. The signs will remain in place until water sampling meets state health standards. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities today publicly identified a U.S. Border Patrol agent who fatally shot a Mexican national last month during a scuffle just north of the international line in San Ysidro.Ryan Gonsalves, a nine-year member of the federal agency who is assigned to its Imperial Beach station, opened fire on 30-year-old David Angel Villalobos-Baldovinos early on the evening of Oct. 23 near Las Americas Premium Outlets mall on Camino De La Plaza, according to the San Diego Police Department.The events that led to the deadly gunfire began about 5:45 p.m., when Villalobos-Baldovinos allegedly tried to enter the United States illegally and was confronted by Gonsalves, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.When the agent tried to detain Villalobos-Baldovinos, a struggle broke out. During the fracas, the lawman shot the suspect once in the upper body.Gonsalves suffered minor injuries during the fight, Brown said.
