SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 36,000 pounds of cocaine seized in the Eastern Pacific Ocean will be offloaded Tuesday from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf onto San Diego’s B Street Pier.The contraband is from 17 busts on smuggling vessels off the coasts of Central and South America, officials said. Five Coast Guard cutters were involved in the seizures between early February and early March.Rear Adm. Todd Sokalzuk, the 11th Coast Guard District commander who oversees the law enforcement phase of counter-smuggling operations in the Eastern Pacific region, said the Coast Guard is seizing record amounts of cocaine for the third year in a row.“I’m proud of the hard work and dedication of my crew, as well as the crews of Coast Guard Cutters Bear, Diligence, Harriet Lane, Venturous and the joint and interagency personnel who work hand-in-hand to secure our nation,” said Capt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego State University football team announced Friday it has added a game against the Brigham Young University Cougars in December to complete its shortened schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The team initially received its schedule from the Mountain West Conference Thursday with a "TBA" game on Dec. 12. That game will now be played against BYU in Provo, Utah.It will be the second straight season that SDSU ends its regular season with the Cougars. Last year on Nov. 30, San Diego State defeated BYU, 13- 3, in what ended up being the Aztecs' final football game at SDCCU Stadium to snap a six-game losing streak in the series and improve to 8-21-1 all-time against Brigham Young.The BYU game will be the sole non-conference game for the Aztecs, excepting any possible post-season play.San Diego State opens its season at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, against UNLV on Oct. 24. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A gray whale spotted frolicking in shallow waters attracted dolphins and a crowd of swimmers and surfers in the ocean off Mission Beach Wednesday. Lifeguards got a call about the whale possible tangled in fishing line about noon, an official said. A lifeguard who swam toward the whale to investigate determined it was free.The gray whale was young, possibly a year and a half old, whale watcher and photographer Domenic Biagini told 10News. Gray whales are starting to migrate north from Mexico during the spring. There is a good chance San Diegans will see more mothers and juvenile whales closer to shore, Biagini says, because the shallow waters keep the whales safe from orcas. "It's some of the most exciting times for us as professional whale watchers to see these animals, but it's also when we see the most conflicts with these animals coming in with people," said Biagini.Sky10 was above the whale as a group of surfers and swimmers approached it near Mission Beach, coming close to the giant mammal.Biagini warns that can be extremely dangerous for humans and can also stress the animal."These gray whales, despite not being the largest of the great whales we see out here, they can still get 50 feet long and weigh up to 80,000 pounds, so you're talking very large animals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 26-year-old was hospitalized late Saturday night after being struck by an SUV while riding his motorcycle.Police say the man was crossing an intersection at 5th Avenue and Ash Street around 9:41 when 82-year-old Herbert Green ran a red light and hit the 26-year-old.The rider flew off the bike when police say he hit a parked car with his head. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers were able to catch up to and arrest Green several blocks away from the scene of the crash. 545

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a woman accused of drunkenly dragging her co-worker with her car before fatally running him over in Kearny Mesa.Latisha Ingram, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving in the death of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Prosecutors say Ingram, Ta, and a group of co-workers went out for drinks on Convoy Street last June, when Ingram tried to driver herself home. Ta tried to stop her, eventually grabbing the door of her car.
