JULIAN, Calif. -- There was a light dusting of snow on Mt. Laguna and temperatures below freezing Tuesday.Tom is a co-owner of Laguna Mountain Lodge co-owner.  He told 10News, "Well, it got really cold, dropped down to about 22 and wind was just howlin' and then I got up about 5 this morning and the wind had died and there was a coating of snow; beautiful."It hasn't been exceptionally busy at the lodge; it usually takes a heavier snowfall to bring the crowds. It's also dangerous, he told us."It was pretty icy this morning; the roads were real bad." A pick-up truck slid off the road on hiway 79 near Santa Ysabel.  No one was hurt. The light storm left the area with nice scenery. "It's fun. I like the snow; like weather you can see." 767

Jay Leno's 90-year-old uncle is still trapped in the seventh floor of a Florida apartment building. He has enough food and his phone works, but there's no electricity and the temperatures continue to hover in the high 80s and 90s."You know how hot it gets," Leno told CNN backstage at the "Hand in Hand" benefit, a one-hour, celebrity-packed telethon that aired Tuesday to raise funds for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. But, said Leno, "He got through WWII, he can get through this."Getting through it is just the start for those affected.Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas and Louisiana over a 6-day period, with losses estimated to be as much as billion. The full scale of Hurricane Irma's impact is still being accessed. There have been?at least 24 Irma-related fatalities in the United States, including Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. And on Tuesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said an estimated 25% of houses in the Florida Keys were destroyed and another 65% suffered major damage. The telethon, which aired across 15 networks and streamed online, included performances from Stevie Wonder, Usher, Blake Shelton, Tori Kelly and Luis Fonsi. Texas native George Strait, joined by some of his fellow country artists, was the last performance of the night. The set included a medley of songs live from San Antonio, including Strait's song "If It Wasn't for Texas."Over 60 famous faces -- including George Clooney, Julia Robert and Oprah -- also took part from Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. At the close of the show, Billy Crystal put the total raised at more than million, with that number expected to climb. The special will air on a delay on the west coast.Organizations benefiting from money raised by the telethon include Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, the Rebuild Texas Fund, and the ASPCA.Tuesday's program highlighted survivor and victim stories, as well as tales of heroic saves by first responders and ordinary people alike. Among them was the story of a group of people who formed a human chain to save an elderly man from his submerged vehicle during the worst of Harvey's flooding."If there's one silver lining, it's the fact that people are helping one another," Leno said. 2279

Just about anything with a wireless connection could be a target for hackers to attack, including personal computers, tablets and even baby monitors. But what about medical devices? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is monitoring that, too.Cardiologist Cynthia Tracy, with George Washington University Medical Center, implants pacemakers into people’s bodies almost daily.“In a typical situation, there might be two electrodes that pass through these veins and into the heart,” Tracy explains of the device. The device, which is about the size of silver dollar, controls a patient's heart beat and sends data to doctors by using the internet."They have a Bluetooth connection somehow that allows the device to communicate with something external," Dr. Tracy says. That wireless connection is where the concern comes in.“There's no such thing as a medical device without vulnerabilities,” says Suzanne Scwarts, who leads medical device cyber security for the FDA.Shwarts says after a series of security problems discovered in various medical devices, cyber security is front and center.“We want patients to definitely be able to understand what are current risks today,” Shwarts says.Dr. Tracy explains while security shortcomings may be there, an actual hack to something like a pacemaker would be a bit difficult.“I couldn't from here reprogram someone that's out there in the lobby, Dr. Tracy says."They would have to be fairly close in order for me to do anything to their device."Though there have been no direct hacks to patients to date, the threat is there, which is why the FDA is ramping up its efforts to make sure the hacking of medical devices doesn't become reality. 1689
